08 Blade!!!! :D

Depends what year. Both of this years models look f*cking ugly IMHO

Honda have really messed up the looks of the blade by bolting that dustbin on the side of it and messing about with the front end.

The GSXR just looks horrible and the standard twin exhausts look cheap.

If I was buying a brand new litre bike. I'd buy an R1.. or maybe a 2nd hand blade. Best looking of the GSXR Thou's is the K5, K6, they K5 is supposed to make the most power and be the most fun to ride according to what I've read on gixerjunkies

I dont think theres much in it, it'll just come down to which one you like best, so go get a test ride.

I've ridden the previous model fireblade, and although I am certainly nothing even close to approaching an expert, I thought it was a very well behaved bike. I wasn't scared of it or the power at all, it was very easy to ride at slow speeds.. Having only ridden on a 33bhp SV til that point, I didn't know what to expect from something so powerful. The guy who owns it loves it. I don't know if well behaved bikes are your cuppa, or if you like something a bit lairy, and I've never ridden a gsxr so I can't comment on that :p

the blade would be the older under seat exhaust model and the gixer would be a k7 new with free arrow cans, i havent ruled out the gsxr750 new k7/k8 george whites are doing free akra can with these models so u can dump the dustbin on the side.

In that case, go with the 'blade. So many jurno's said how great it was to ride. It may not be the fastest, but it's a great bit of kit.

(And JT didn't think it was that bad either :))

supposedly, and i haven't ridden either, unless you spend much of your time the wrong side of 100mph, the difference between the 750 and the 1000 is negligible...

i'd have the blade myself, but i couldn;t afford to insure either;

"ah, i see you once left your mobile on the bus when you were 12 sir, i'm afraid that makes you uninsurable"

:D

Thats the best shape blade. I dont like the K7 GSXR 1000 same problems as the K8, but if you're getting the arrows then that solves the cheapy looking OEM exhaust problem.

The only way you're going to tell is a test ride. You cant rely on the magazine reviews as they are not impartial.

I think though you'll find the blade excellent but maybe a bit devoid of character where as the GSXR has more character, Again I've read on the GSXR junkies that the K5, K6 GSXR Thous handle better and make more power...

Just my 2p I've not ridden either. But I wouldnt rule out the 750 either. Depends how you like to ride, if you dont mind playing with the gears then try the 750 if you want a truly lazy bike it has to be a 1000cc really I think.

Test ride them both and decide because very few people here would have ridden both models. Or if you want looks go with the R1.

I personally would go for a '07 blade over any of the GSXR1000's, you really need to test ride them both properly to compare which would suit you best.

Kneewhere?!
26-07-08, 07:06 PM
I agree that you need to ride them both to decide. Even if it's just to find out which one 'fits' better. I haven't been riding long so didn't expect to be on a litre sports bike so soon but the sv got written off and a friend was selling a blade v cheap. It inspires lots of confidence, power comes in very smooth (lots of it too) and the suspension encouraged me to get my kneedown for the first time within 2 weeks of owning the bike.

Might have to change my username now!

I had a gixer thou K6 and it was bloody brilliant. The engine is a gem with a chassis to handle it. I only sold it cos me licence would have walked sooner or later so had to slow down. Probably the most complete sports bike I've ridden with a good level of finish. The K8 with the Arrows look OK and allegedly brings back a little of the lost low down torque of the K5/6, handling wise it's up to the riders preference.

08 blade. As light as and handles as well as the 600rr but with added loony power.

Had the 07 blade last year. Pulls like a train, handling is amazing but just too much power to appreciate on the road. Build quality second to none. Gixxers are just too small for me so I can't give a fair comment.

So...07 blade would be my advice.

I'm sure its brilliant mind. I also would think it offers significant benefits in the wet etc etc.

I just think that learning to master the throttle is far more satisfying than knocking the power down with a switch on the bar.

Mind you what does setting C give, something like 115bhp still plenty to land you up sh*t creek without a paddle, hence why I think its a gimmick.

So have you made your mind up yet kwak ?

The thing that always strikes me when I read about the thous in magazines, is that the GSXR always seems to come out top when only road-riding is considered. If I was a mile-munching sportsbike maniac, I'd have the GSXR1000. I've always also noticed how suzuki's have the least extreme (by that I mean racey) riding postion; its where you want to be, hunched over, but its not completly bum up head down alll the time.

But for looks, I'd have an R1. Had a good look at the new fireblade a few weeks back......what a dog. Looks like someone took the old one and rode it into a wall, liked how the nose went flat and said "we'll polish that up and sell it as the new blade. Job done"

You can get a discount ona K8 if you don't want those goodies GW offers...

I've heard of prices of £7250 or thereabouts for a K8 750 in the last month or so, I'm sure £7400 is do-able.

But if you think the bits you get from GW are worth it, then you've got a £6200 bike not an £8200 bike? You can also try to sell on the bits you get with it if you don't like/want them...

If you can find any K7s they are likely to be pretty cheap though. They were being sold off at around £7000 (advertised) when the K8 was about to be released, they may be a tad less now, plus a bit of bargaining....

That's for unregistered bikes so would be an 08 plate...

Yeah, it is pointless, the power delivery is so soft you would have to be SO ham fisted for it to ever be worthwhile. Even then...

But, it's good for a laugh, I tried it out once lol, C mode is quite slow actually! B is supposed to be around the same as the GSX-R 600 (I could see that).

True but it'll be more lazy, i.e. it'll have more torque lower down so it'll feel alot closer to your SV to ride. Especially if you are lazy and like to leave it in 5th or 6th rather than buzzing through the gear box.

Aye but tbh whats the point in going from a SVthou with lots of low down torque which doesnt require much gear changing to a IL4 that rides the same...

If I was to go for a complete change of bike... away from the V-twin id probably go for a 600. The performance is more accessable for the road as the gearing isnt sky high.

Guess its all down to peronal taste aye.
