A friend fitted my fenda extenda and red fox hugger today. I went for a short ride tonight as it's such a nice evening. I did hear some noise, sounds like windnoise but I guess that's nothing to be worried about.

I did have a look at my hugger after my ride and I found that it was quite flush on the left side, not that much space between the hugger and the tyre. On the right it sits much higher with a lot more space between hugger and tyre. Has anyone else noticed the same?

I had a similar issue and resolved it by adding a washer as a spacer between the swingarm and the hugger.
Try adding a washer here and there and see if it helps.

Is there a guide as to how much of a gap there should be between tyre and hugger or is it just preference

I'd say "sufficient". Probably enough so you're comfortable with it, and so if you get a stone stuck in your tread it doesn't catch the hugger and take a nice piece out of it.

5mm perhaps?
