It comes as no suprise that Top gear or should i say Clarkson slags off bikes again and his two pet chimps haven't got the b***s to to defend bikes even though they profess to be bikers first and foremost over cars. If anyone i work with tries to give biking a slagging i put them right with all the vigor i can muster. I believe that Clarkson doesnt like bikes because it takes large amount of skill to ride and control a bike correctly and safely and he hasnt got it. His idea of driving skill is sitting in a 1000 BHP supercar and spinning the rear wheels(YAWN) then when real driving skill is needed he has to hand it to someone who can drive. The Stig.

Yes, TopGear is 100% anti-bikes and yes you are right in that Richard Hammond and James May have at no point stood up to Jeremy Clarkson.

Clarkson once sat on a harley as a dare, he gave it some revs, accidently put it in gear.....and promptly dropped the bike.

Hammond has a 1098S and may races classic bikes.

Top gear's a giggle. There's been some banter on the bike stuff between Clarkson and Hammond but the point is Clarkson is opinionated and blunt and loves to wind people up. Thus about once or twice a year we have a set of threads where everyone gets all wound up about the man.

Despite the fact that the average motorcyclist in the UK is now a middle aged man with kids, and a car, all the motorcycling publications are generally "anti car" and have a go at all the fools in "cages". Because it's entertainment people are happy to gloss over the fact that they also drive cars, often badly. The car forums generally don't get all upset about how Bike! magazine has slagged off cars again...

So in short, if bikers are allowed to slag off car drivers, I'm not sure I'm morally opposed to Clarkson fishing for a reaction from "those guys in power ranger, day-glo leather romper suits"

Clarkson has actually once said something thats not bad about bikes... When Neil Morrissey was on driving the crap car Neil put Clarkson in his place! Clarkson actually said something like (cant remember exact words) "I tried one of those Ducati Moster thingies, they are fast! felt like it was pulling my arms off". Just need someone with the balls to put him in his place.

Oh... why was there no Motorbike in the race accross London? ill guess because it would win by MILES! Sigh.

As to the co stars... well maybe they arnt allowed. it seems that Clarkson is the power behind it and it seems the other two are going to be going now anyway.

So what is it thats started this? I not seen much of this series, has he slagged down bikes again?

I blame Jambo, his sensible posts give us bikers a bad name.

Question, has anyone ever seen me and Jeremy Clarkson together at the same time?;)

Clarkson's brilliant at what he does, he's created a character and now he plays it brilliantly. Even if you watch old top gears you can see the difference. I wonder if he remembers who he really is? :D

It's TV ... a TV show about cars ... they are bound to belittle any other mode of transport (and always do) so what??? ... deal with it?

For humorous effect, I'd expect a presenter to take the piddle/hurl abuse at cars in a bike show, and I bet you would lap it up!! ;)

Top Gear did used to have the odd bike in it didn't it? I do agree now that bikes are generally shunned, and yes Clarkson has always hated them. But at the end of the day they see it as a 'car show' whereas the BBC would say 'Motoring', which I don't think it could be classed as.

It was Steve something who used to do the bikes... but he was/is a muppet who never helped us bikers out. A shame they dont mention bikes it could be fun to see what the bikes can do on thier little circuit. :)

Apart from his anti bike thing he seldom deals with anything practical or affordable, its either phenomenally expensive or just plain stupid. The one thing I do like is his ability to be outspoken either in broadcasting or written word in regard to the big brother and law making imbeciles who rule our lives

Its Clarkson you have to take what he says with a huge pinch of salt.

Like Dicky Ticker I like the way he speaks his mind. He's clever and articulate he knows what to say and to who to get a rise out of people, you just have to remember that.

i think clarksons hilarious, his written stuff is brilliant and as you say he knows how to get a reaction from people. he often does things just to get a rise out of them. also top gear is now more of an entertainment show, yes its about cars, but really its more about entertainment. i watched an old show with clarkson on it and he was talking about bikes, saying how he should love them, the speed, the engines, the afordability, the engineering in them, but he just doesnt. so he now just mocks them

also like how they have adopted the top of the pops way of arranging audience members, we'll have pretty ladies to the front and the rest...... well just sort yourselves out!

Indeed he is an actor like everyone else on TV!! .. just like the cast of Deadernders (or any other show) ... these people aren't 'real' ...

I suppose he is... BUT he may just use the clarkson front to put accross his views. Having seen some of the things he has done away from Top Gear I do think he is a bit of an aragant ****... I guess even that could be an act, who knows... (retorical question) :p

Its all part of the persona/image that every actor has to keep up ... I am sure some, perhaps much of what he says/thinks is from the heart, but never forget he is an actor acting a predetermined/staged part so you will never know the true percentages!!

Clarkson is harmless enough and there are bigger egos out there in the 'stars' world isn't there!! ;)

.....
......

To prove the point ... do you really think all those 'races' they do really end up as that tight a run thing?!?!!? ... do they feck, its all stage managed .... good tv mind ....

I do find it sickening my TV licence payers money is going toward them p1ssing aobut in cars mind!! :(

Hammond and May like bikes, Clarkson doesn't. Of course they're going to make a humorous dialogue out of that when the subject arises. It's TV.

Clarkson did sit on a CBR600RR once on Top Gear, when he rode tested that Ariel Atom which blitzed the bike round the track. Fifth Gear do a lot on bikes, they had Butler Henderson on a Ducati 999 riding back and to outside Ducati Manchester, they took a ZZR1400 down Santa Pod, a Ron Haslam track day at Donington (in which Tiff slid off the CBR600RR getting his kneedown) and a race between a Bowler Wildcat and KTM i think it was. I must stop watching Dave :(

Aye... you are right. Though racing a 600 vs a atom... common. Cost difference is MASSIVE. :(

The 5th gear ones are great though, and not just because the bike often wins... :p

They also did 1098 vs Lambo (Murchialago?)

Also did CBR with Toseland vs a Civic Type R... Erm a Gixxer 1000 vs something else too but cant remember what. The bikes all won those. :D

I dont know why everyone is complaining.

Last night on Top Gear they had a KTM on it now I know a lot of people will say it's not a real bike but it was on screen for at least 3 seconds.!!!

sorry if its been mentioned but if you have ever watched clarksons motorworld, he did ride a 748 (or similar) around monte carlo race track. not sticking up for him, as said he's a wind up merchant and i think its quite funny. i bet there has been a few times hammond has taken the bike to work an razzed carkson while hes in some super car. :p

Didn't Nial MacKenzie race a porsche round the track and the porsche won or was that one of Clarkson's dvds?

its amusingm, but does go over the top somewhat. wha ti disagree with is (correct me if i am wrong) but clarkson has been using the phrase "tankslaper" alot recently, which i associate with bikes! Using biking terms but then slagging it off?!! bah!
still a good show though. and i think the reason hammond and may dont react much recently is because of the dispute in pay. apparently clarkson gets paid just under 2 million a year from the bbc, the others get around 350,000. read it in the mail the other week. weather its correct or not im not sure, but i would certainly be annoyed if he was getting paid that amount!

Last night on Top Gear they had a KTM on it now I know a lot of people will say it's not a real bike...

depends on your frame of reference, if you ride KTM singles and someone trys to sell you an SV you'd laugh at them and the ponderous steering, excessive weight and suspension that somehow manages to be unable to absorb bumps but bounces like a dinghy on the ocean;)

you could always do worse though, something like a falco#-o

oh, and btw, that KTM Duke 3 actually belongs to hamster, or he owns one in the same colours;)
