View Full Version : My new carbon exhaust
Not strictly SV related :( but thought I would post away anyway.
Ordered it from the states for £330 as UK retailer want a frankly rediculous £580:confused: how they can justify that price difference I have no idea.
Yoshimura RS-5 in full carbon....sound lovely
Note the hole in the tarmac where I VERY nearly dropped a bike for the very first time lol, it was slowly going while i filled a bucket and caught it just in time lol, then broke a rather expensive floor tile (sorry Miss P :pale:)

I got it from a company called Universal Motorsport Inc, you can call the bloke and he is very helpful, I think he works in Yoshimura's US HQ....which is what answers the next question.....I'll find the number

Edit: without incriminating myself as it was nothing to do with me....yes, can explain how if you really want to know via pm lol

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!
I had the same bike and very nearly ordered the exact same can from across the pond on a few occaisions. Yoshi make lovely sounding cans for IL4's..
Did you get stung for import duty?

thats what i was going to ask? ive found a simalir can for the gsxr k8 yum yum!
Nope didnt get stung for import tax......there is still ways around it, not that I'm going to openly disclose on here mind.
If anyone want to know somewhere in the states to get one from or how to get one without being robbed blind by C&E let me know lol

Why does it have a mat for the side stand?
kwak zzr
30-07-08, 01:21 PM
its a tile.
its a tile.
It is indeed lol......and thats because the tarmac got so hot that the side stand sunk into the driveway and the bike got close to falling over, 45degree angle infact lol
I'm sure it sounds better, but as this is a Photo thread not a sound thread, I reckon this looks sooo much better, as it properly fits the space for it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v634/graemepaterson/DSCF0043.jpg
It may not look it from the photos but the rs5 is almost identical size and fit as the standard can.
The only part that makes a real difference to the looks is the silver part around the top and sides of the standard can, but that comes off when the tailtidy was replaced.
When the silver bit was removed and the tail tidy fitted, the standard can sits exactly as the yoshi one and is the same shape.
Weeeee! It's a "How sexy is your CBR600RR exhaust thread" Can I play, can I please?
(I'll add some pics when I get home :D)

I would like to know pleaaaaaaaase.
Looks lurvelly btw!
Then why did you get a tail tidy?
Esp. given that you still have std indies on, why not just stick your tiny (private ) plate on the std tail tidy & change the can?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v634/graemepaterson/DSCF0035.jpg
Looks much better IMO
Then why did you get a tail tidy?
For the same reason people do on SV's, the standard one is huge, I also got one because I wanted a new exhaust as the standard one is to quite, 95% of nice aftermarket cans wont fit with the standard tailtidy, despite being pretty much identical in shape because of different mounting points.

Its not tiny its legal bike font size when measured
To be honest I think your posts are abit arsey, and your probably just looking for a bite from me....dont think the tone/bitchyness is needed at all and thats all that come across in that above post, your obviously not a fan of private plates either (mine was bought as a present so its sentimental so I wont get rid despite not being a fan either).
Each to their own though, appreciate your views.
OK, fair enough to the tail tidy if required for your can, which I'm 100% with you on sound, but I very rarely like aftermarket underseat cans for looks as the std ones look as if they are built for the job rather than aftermarket  ;)
I'm all for private plates that do the job of hiding the age, but you've done the opposite of buying a relatively new bike & still got a PP admittedly no one's going to think it is a K reg. (edit: OK acknowledge not your choice as present) Also having a memorable plate would probably be one of the last things I wanted to achieve
I'd be very surprised if that is a legal font :smt102 and you know it's illegal for being a one liner never mind plate size as more background makes it easier to see. (I do retract the 'tiny' comment though ;))
Don't think it's fair to read tone/bitchiness into my reply :smt102. Just shortness in typing.
If you could debaffle/mufflerectomy an underseat can that would be my ideal I think.
I promised ;)

Stunning that mate, I love Akrapovics just a shame they didnt do one like that for mine

Mine sadly didnt come with a baffle :(
You can buy them seperately for £60, but to fit it involves un-riveting the carbon end cone every time you want to put it in or take it out......and personally I dont fancy drilling out rivets, but I dont fancy having to take it off get back on the tack either :(

If you look in the 3rd picture of mine, underneath the outlet their's a rubber grommet. This is a hole that allows access to the bolt that holds the baffle in :D

drool, drool!! :drunken:
Lovely, carbon would look better though, i'm not a fan of stainless.
Then again, its your bike. either way looks far better than the stock can, bet it sounds well too!
its a tile.
It's a broken tile now
Looks good Mranderson....you can actually get a baffle for the RS-5 I have found out....you need to drill a small hole in the base of the cone to get to the screw that hold the washer you can see in the outlet in place. You can then buy the baffle from Hein Gerrick for £30
Saves putting the standard one on for trackdays, mine was tested at 106db by the ACU at cadwell on sunday and thats nearly new with all the packing still in it lol. :(

Cool stuff, that's useful info.
So does that mean we'll be seeing you on track on Saturday?

Not on the track I'm too poor this month due to going on holiday on the 23rd......crap excuse I know :( Will be there taking photos though
To get my standard one sorted, buy a new exhaust gasket, the trackday cost and fuel would have crippled me this month and left me uncomfortable and with not as much spending money as I would like on holiday.
+ The baffle is not advised for the carbon RS-5 as the extra heat build up due to the baffle can melt the can, and the brittle carbon can crack when drilled.
