Hello, I'm new to biking and am wondering if its normal for the chain to rest on the swingarm when the engine is stopped? It also looks like its been wearing little grooves in it... :rabbit:

I'm sure someone will ask what the free play is, so ill go check that now...

ok, on further investigation... it seems to be wearing through some manky slab of rubber... and the play is about 35mm on the sidestand which seems about right

Yeah, that's what the manky slab of rubber's there for.

The manky piece of rubber is the chain slider :D That is what it is there for and it is doing it's job of protecting the swing arm. It's a wearing part and needs to be replaced periodically (I Think).

Your right it is a sacrificial part. But the chances of it wearing out so much that you need to replace it are almost non existent. With the chain on under tension whilst riding, it barely touches the rubber slider.

You could make a home made one.
