View Full Version : Which tank bag?

I saw some a post about the tank bag recently, but have been looking at these 2 instead. Anyone got any experience of either of them?

I'm after a budget tank bag that won't be used too much and don't want to stretch to rack/top box etc etc.

Comments please?

For something that won't be used too often, there's nowt wrong with either of them.

If they still have some laying about the 15quid ones from Lidl are great.

I've got a similar cheapy Oxford tank bag and it's fine. I wouldn't like to go touring Europe with it but it's great for lashing things like waterproofs, wallet, phone etc if you're not travelling too far from home.

For £12.00 you can't really go wrong :D

Phoned Lidl, apparently they had them back in March and the guy said they tend to get repeated every few months.

Probably worth looking again in August.

my dad got one from lidle and its great for the money. but which ever you get defo get some of the non slip rubber mesh stuff not so much to stop it sliping but stop the magnet picking things up and scratching the tank. even the very fine dust can leave a horrible mess. :p

HG were doing some discount on some dirty great massive ones that seem to be about the size of a tailpack... think they were around 35 squid.

Yes, bought the second one (Quantum) before the AR and it was £15 (from M&P also), so for £12 it is a bargain. Very similar to the Oxford First Time expandable bag, minus the rucksack straps. Comes with rain cover and the bag zips off the base to leave just a map holder on the magnetic base too. Also the front outside pocket zips off to become an **** bag. You'll not be disappointed if you buy one.

Cheers - went for the Quantum, arrives tomorrow. Then off to the lakes for the weekend with Nobbylass for our anniversary....I spoil that girl, I really do! ;-)

I bought a Quantum too after seeing this thread. Now, I'm prepared to be called many things for this - but where's the nylon strap at the front supposed to be tied around?

The obvious place to me, going by it's proximity is under the petrol tank, but am I missing something?

If it's anything like my Oxford, it's supposed to go around the headstock but there really isn't enough space for it.

Hmmm, I had a quick look this morning and the bag seems pretty secure with just the magnets holding it in place.

Contemplated cutting the strap off as it didn't fit round the headstock, as you say.

Is this a good/bad/don't be so &%^£'in stupid idea?

What if you get a different bike?

I did this with my Oxford tankbag, 10 years and 3 bikes later is is still secure on the bike. All my bikes have had fairings though!

Then I might be able to use my tank bag on it I suppose ;)

Unless I lift the tank, and wrap the strap around under there, it's just going to flap around and tangle in something :smt103.

Plus, it'd be a pain in the chuffer chuffer to remove every time I need to refuel that way.

I just started using my cheapy Aldi one this week for work and its quite good actually. I couldnt be bothered with straps etc so just took them off and use the magnets, not been stupid speeds on my commute but at 90 its still rock solid with just the magnets holding it (3 on each side) and 1 second to it get on and off, nice.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread a bit :), but can anyone recommend a good waterproof rucksack/backpack for using whilst on the SV. Thanks.
