Hi all

I'm in the Maidstone/Medway area and my bike's a bit overdue for her 11000 mile service...

Just to ask where people take their sv's for servicing? I'm looking around at the mo and there's Bowen Moto and Magnum Motorcycles in Medway, and Laguna's and Inta in Maidstone.

Anyone had good or bad experiences with these places?

Thanks people

Sadly i can not comment on either of those places, although im sure someone will. I can wholy recommend Premier mortorcycels in west wickham, and Frank Dunstal in elmers end, however, both of them are a bit far away from you.

I've heard laguna don't really do much- at least not for the KTM a guy I know has.

Fastlane in Tonbridge... excellent - only downside is that due to their popularity they're very busy.

I'll be honest, on the few occasions that I've used them, I've never had a problem with CM Motorcycles in Rochester. However, the last time I used them it was a little expensive (can't remember how much) and vowed I'd do as much as I could to cut the costs next time.

Yeah, I've bitten the bullet and booked in with Inta in Maidstone. I've done some work on my bike to bring down the cost already , done oil change and renewed oil and air filters so the main thing for them to do is spark plugs I think :)

Picked my bike up from Inta today and it was great! It's running great and they sorted the things I asked them about too. Well pleased! :D:D

What was the point of taking it in in the 1st place?? You dont most of it.

I used to change anything that needed doing otehr than engine stuff.

Yeah, spark plugs are a bit out of my ability range at the mo...:-? plus there was some adjustment needed with the choke cable and the back brake needed taking apart and cleaning too...

I've set myself the goal that when the 15000 mile service comes round I'll be able to do everything myself except the valve clearances. Here's hoping...:thumright:

Even the valve clearances are not that difficult. Actually that's not strictly true, they are easy to check, but a bit of a fiddle to adjust as they are the bucket and shim type, so you either need a big box of spare ones, or be prepared to wait whilst the replacements arrive.

Sturdeys in tonbridge are very good in my opinion :) they even cleaned my bike when they serviced it! and im not a fan of fastlane after they tried to fix a friends vfr n they made it worse

Everyone has their opinions... Personally I've never had a bad experience of Sturdey's, but it's not the most welcoming of places.

If Fastlane made your mate's VFR "worse" - perhaps you'd like to fill us in on what was wrong with it in the first place?

I agree that Sturdeys is good....Used them for a while and travel the extra to go there as they do exactly what they say on the tin and dont charge the earth for it either.

I used sturdeys once or twice for my sv and have no complaints. Avoid groombridges for servicing would be my advice after they did a few things wrong on my sv whilst simply changing chain and sprockets

Robinson's are usually extremely busy and can be overpriced too. I'll probably use them for my next service (unless I learn quick), but they bled my front brake and it was even more spongy than before (has a braided line too)

Premier are great, but thinking of using Frank Dunstal for a cam chain change, what did you have done and I assume it was a lot cheaper than a main dealer? Seems like a nice bloke though, just after a recommendation ;)

Seems like a nice bloke though, just after a recommendation ;)To be honest, i service my own bike now. It was way back when i had my scooter. An average service was about £110 for the scoot where i bought it from (Main dealer), then someone recommended FD. They done the service, replaced the brake light switch and the exhaust shield for under £100. The scooter felt better as well!

I only live about 5 mins away form there (on foot) but i'll still do my own bike, its just cheaper that way.

And why on earth do you need a cam chain replacement? How many miles you bike got?

Don't pop in this section often but Taggs near Bethersen appear to be ok as well (never had own bike there but know an ex SVer who used them quite a bit)

I've been going to Tagg Racing for 4 years with my three bikes - they have done everything from salvaging a badly damaged hornet, engine rebuilds you name it. They have also constantly rewarded my loyalty with decent prices.

If i've had to move something they've touched its been properly lubed/copper greased and torqued appropriatley.

Can't sing their praises enough.

+1 on Tagg racing. Had a GSXR a few years ago they got her tuned and running a dream and were decent to speak to also.
