Well i have the total of and hour left before i get to leave to spend the evening getting all excited about my CBT tomorrow and my first lesson of my DAS on Sunday! :smt045:D

Been annoying Drew, Gid, Hovis, Widepants and Girth all week telling them at any given opportunity on MSN that it is my CBT (sorry guys) but all of them have given me lots of support and told me that failing is not an option on either the CBT and DAS. But also given me sound advice for tomorrow. Thank you guys

But really excited and want to go now so that i sit and watch the clock all night and not sleep as its just like christmas :D but better ;)

yippeeeeeee
lil passed

lily
02-08-08, 02:05 PM
Right so as Gid has said i pass.... Yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Got off to a rubbish start and was worried that they wouldn't take me out on the road, but one of the instructors (lee) took the time and worked with me on a one-to-one basis while the others did other bits with the other instructor (tony). They then took us out on the road, and it all went to pot! could i rembember what i was told.... could i for toffee!!!!!

Tony was talking me though everything.... (it was a good job the other lad was better than me). The other lad was leading with tony right behind me..... in my mirrors all the time. We then stop to do the emergency stop and the turn in the road which i did fine (second time around) after i had gave myself a bit of a talking to had a little cry in my helmet as i was pi$$ed off at myself. Did emergency stop and turn again and got them right.

Once we left, Tony had me leading, and i seemed to improve 100% (even he said so). Still got a lot to improve tho.

So once we got back and he told both of us we had passed (huge sigh of relief). Had a talk with Tony and decieded that going to done my DAS on a 125. Got a lesson tomorrow with Tony again and he said he'll give me a huge kick up the bum!

Just got a couple of things to think about tonight and maybe practice on drew's bike once i get home.

1. When pulling off a ease the clutch out so far and then let go!!!!!
2. I forget what gear i'm in  so need to count them and remember
3. Getting my brain around countersteering.... was starting to get it towards the end so maybe tomorrow i will sort it! :D

But really enjoyed it and yes i'm now scared but not about riding a bike about getting everything wrong..... don't know how many times i said sorry the both Lee and Tony?!

But i will sleep well tonight and go back tomorrow with my brain saying I CAN DO THIS!!!!! :D

lily
02-08-08, 02:10 PM
O and the most important thing that both Tony and Lee kept saying to me

RELAX and STOP LOOKING DOWN THERE IS NOTHING THERE LOOK AHEAD

don't know why i am looking down tho

2. I forget what gear i'm in  so need to count them and remember

I wouldnt worry. I do that now... I'm convinced my GSXR got a 7 speed gearbox...

3. Getting my brain around countersteering.... was starting to get it towards the end so maybe tomorrow i will sort it! :D

Personally I wouldnt worry about that at the mo, just concentrate on doing what you need to do to pass. The rest will come later, but saying that if you can master it, its one less thing to learn later on.

But really enjoyed it and yes i'm now scared but not about riding a bike about getting everything wrong..... don't know how many times i said sorry the both Lee and Tony?!

Dont worry you're still learning, Just relax and listen to what you're being told. Its hell of a lot of things to take in in one go you're going to make mistakes and nobody is expecting you to nail it first time.

I remember coming home from my DAS lessons and being knackered from concentrating so much. Don't put to much pressure on yuorself just try and enjoy it.

Sounds like you are doing great  If I was you I would really try and do it on the 500cc bike, it'll translate much easier to riding your SV once you've passed. Remember small steps and dont rule out doing the 500cc's once you have a bit more practice. You can always ask them if you can have a go and see how you get on. Don't rule it out till you've tried it is all I'm saying...

From a fellow newbie rider - I was in you shoes just a couple of months ago - I wouldn't worry about the gears, I still muck them up.

A friend told me to stop trying to count them, just ride in whatever feels right. No use I know when you're praying that you got it down to 1st before pulling out of the junction etc!

Oh, and counter steering I had barely heard of when I took my test. I just rode it like my mountain bike.

Congrats on the CBT.

Congratulations on the CBT.

Whatever you do, don't worry about making mistakes. As I tell my learners, if you DON'T make any mistakes, how can you be expected to learn from them?

As for countersteering, don't worry about it at all. If you can make the bike turn, you're already doing it.

2. I forget what gear i'm in  so need to count them and remember

I do something different to the above. On the SV it's easy as there's a rev counter, and I'm not sure what bike you're riding for lessons, but...

When out on a ride, I ride by the revs, changing gear according to the noise that the bike makes. Basically, you want to aim for the middle of the rev range, as this gives you best balance of acceleration when needed, and engine braking (if any on the bike) - just by varying the throttle. :)

If the rev's sound low, change down. If the rev's sound high, change up.

This does mean though that occasionally I try to put it into 7th, and when riding hard & hit 1st at 50mph, I tend to think I'm in 2nd & attempt to change down again. After you've passed the test, this doesn't really matter though.

Above all, do whatever makes you comfortable on the bike. :)

Good luck with DAS.

Awww, well done! I did my test on a 125 and have been riding my sv restricted, it's a light bike and is perfect for me at the mo. Only a couple of months to go till I'm unrestricted- but honestly, I've not used it to it's full piotential yet.

Best of luck whatever you decide.

1. When pulling off a ease the clutch out so far and then let go!!!!!

Did this one one very notable occassion a month or so after I passed my test. Gave it a mountain of revs as I was trying to get away from the lights quickly, as I started moving I dumped the clutch and pulled a wheelie, nearly into the back of a truck!!!

2. I forget what gear i'm in  so need to count them and remember

Still sometimes go for a 7th, 8th or 9th gear!!!

3. Getting my brain around countersteering.... was starting to get it towards the end so maybe tomorrow i will sort it! :D

Didn't get this till about 4 months after I passed as I didn't understand what the instructors were saying and was afraid to ask!

Congrats on the pass and don't worry bout the riding, just do it!!

yeaaaaaaaaaaa

but you cant fail a can you? just need to comeback and do it again til you Ok isnt it> so you did pass first time in essence!.

I would heed what fizz said re the 500 etc.. however the instructor saw you and he knows from observing etc BUT its bloody hard on a little 125 and wont you then be restricted to 33bhp? or am I wrong?. the 500 will give you more confidence more low down torque etc.

Woo hooo.....proud of my girl. As for 125 / 500, I know Tony and he said he wouldn't feel comfortable with her on the 500, so 125 is all good.....so long as she is comfortable.

Right i've had my second lesson today..... and things now start to make sense!!!

Had one slip up today when i decided to pull out on a car once i had done a lifesaver (i know it wasn't there when i looked) but lesson on my obs well learnt. [-X

Going to stick to the 125 and getting happier with it and really enjoying it! Its a CG125 takes a bit to get it going but it gets there! :D
