I want to make up a voltage regulator to run a dogcam 520 line camera from the bike electrics.
Obviously this requires a regulator, a fuse and some connectors, but do I need to use a smoothing capacitor? If so what rating?
Cheers

I have the answer to this somewhere - as I am doing the same (well similar but more involved)
I think ANY cap will do from talking to a mate that knows his stuff.
Let me have another word with him and I will let you know.
Basic circuit is +12V through the fuse (as close to battery as possible in case of future chaffing issues), then put the cap across the 12V and ground (so in parallel) then go regulator. You can also put a cap in parallel after the regulator for extra smoothness I believe :)
My plan is for 12V and 5V feeds so as to allow me to power my recorder as well
After that, well I have another few ideas (yes the Soho Massive have taken to ask "what gadgets do you have with you today?") whenever I turn up.

If you're feeling lazy, dogcam sell a wee box to do it all for you, that's what I did in the end... It's only a tenner, so I looked at the time it'd take to find the bits, do the research and build something and decided just to spend the cash.

Yes considering that too, the main problem appears to be finding the right connector for the JXD unit more than anything else!

My JXD uses the same connection as my old Sony minidisc player, so it's probably a standard tip.

My Dogcam (and the 4Kam) use standard 2.1mm (or is it 2.3mm) connectors
Just take the cam into Maplins and tell them you want a connector for it - then let their monkeys sort it out :)
