Howdy Doody folks

Well today i think i may(hopefully not) have got myself in a spot of bother.

As the weather seemed to clear up nice this afternoon i thought i would take a ride on to Colin Appleyards at keigthley,so set off and got as far as the bypass at skipton where the little chef and travelodge is(for anyone who might know it).

As the road was clear both sides apart from 2 vehicles right in front of me i could,nt resist giving the rr a fistfull,so opened it to redline in all gears 1st 75mph 2nd 108 3rd 132 4th around 150+(by then it was eyes firmly fixed on the road)as anyone who knows this road it,s a massive straight.

Iwas almost halfway doing xxxmph when you come to a lay by,at this lay by around 50/60 yards before me on the opposite side of the road facing the opposite way to which i was going(ie i was going towards the front of the vehicle)i noticed a white van,so naturally it was breaks on and slow down as quick as possible,by the time i got level with the vehicle i would have still been over the ton, this is when my worst fear was confirmed,it was the rozzers, even though i'm not sure if the rear doors were open with a camera pointing out.

Question is....if there was a camera will they have been lined up to film vehicles on their side of the road(coming towards their back doors...oo-er)or can they get both sides of the road.....if so i may be fooooked.8-[

Points don't matter I think. Over a ton = more or less automatic ban? And a fee so massive you will have to remortgage your house. But you may be lucky and hear no more. Would you believe they are going to sit there on Monday afternoon?

Last time the rozzers were on the bypass, the bike cops were sat on all the roundabouts, so it was blatently obvious a scamera would be parked up somewhere.

And as Hovis said usually the van is parked up on the keighley-Skipton side, not the other way around...hope your luckee matey

I really don't get this 'scamera' term?? Why is it a scam? You speed, you get court - tough sh!t - no scam, just you own fault. I'll admit, I'm no angel on the road, but then again I don't really ride that much on the road for fun anymore.

Sit in unnecessary 30 or 40 zones...

It's because they aim to catch as many as possible, NOT to catch those riding dangerously.

because they are labelled road safety vans.. where very little of the money goes into road safety..

Like our car tax.. it pays for the schools.

:offtopic: - slightly

I keep hearing about "Stealth Cameras" here in Lincolnshire that "look" both ways to catch naughty bikers that speed through the front facing cameras but actually photograph the rear.

Anyone know what one looks like. Is it a standard camera box or a van with two cameras sticking out the top like I saw in a layby the other day on the way back from "Skeggy" the other week

Nothing wrong with that imo. If you blatantly speed through a camera because you think it can't get you then don't bloody moan if it turns out it can.

But surely the fact remains the same - if you speed and get caught.... you get ticket. Doesn't matter what they are labelled or where they are put.

It's always been the same for me - you either ride rigidly to the limit or don't whine if you get caught!

Note: never been caught, but fully expect to sooner or later.....so an impartial voice.

In some cases they are not for the intended purpose like they are suggesting......which is what the scam is.

Cameras are often positioned where people will be caught speeding to make 'The safety Partnership'* money.......and often in places where no accidents have occured at all. This is against the policy of the safety camera partnership and therefore the scam.

*a non profit making organisation that made £22m profit last year

As for whether you have been caught or not, who knows, alot of vans catch people in both directions not, at least they do in derbyshire. They get you from a good distance away as well.

I would just sit, wait and hope you havnt been lol

we are just tired of not being able to ride / drive anywhere without the constant OMG theres another camera what speed am i doing....

Oh sorry to pis on your fire but some of the new camera vans can catch bikes. I believe new ones have small CCTV cameras on them so they can get your plate as you go past Assuming you approached from the side of the actual speed camera facing you.

If you did not see an actiuall open door or window pointing at you with a camera then you have not been caught , i would say this is the case as it was on the other side of the road. They point in the oncoming traffic of the side of the road they are on as a rule.

However if you have been caught you are fooked big style, for those speeds a ban and hefty fine is on the cards!

typical scamera....
Wales...Plod hiding in a horsebox

I pretty much ride to what the road tells me, although with my confidence, has also come a lttle more throttle. at times i have come home thinking ooops, but if I did get the letter of doom, it would be my fault, simple as really. Cameras are far too plentyful, and at times I think they are sodding dangerously placed, but some are there for the right reasons.
My dad had 35 years of no claims(no relation to points I know, just an illustration), safe driver he is, but within a month or so of a set of cameras going up Ainleys hill he got 6 points, he was absolutly gutted, and I can bet my bottom dollar he'd only just crept over the limit, thats one of the reasons I ride within speed limits
One of my first memories of bike and camera was by my other halfs parents house, the plod were sat behind a bush, in his mates garden, with a hand held gun. The bush was on the line of a 40mph road down to 30 mph sign....cheeky barstewards

South Wales have one of the new two way vans, was on the A470 the other day, there's a plastic blister on the side with cameras in to catch bike plates as they pass, bummer. Fully marked up by the way.

where abouts?

there was a lot of police action on the M4 last week (around bridgend turn off) they had 3 cameras on a bridge, one for each lane, and a few police bikes/cars on both sides of the road

This set up (3 cameras, one for each lane) and the presence of coppers is a dead givaway.....this will have been an ANPR check for road tax, MOT, insurance etc. Good on 'em - I'm all for this as being pranged by an uninsured driver causes a lot of grief.

There's no need for coppers at a speed-check site - the just do you by post like the fixed cameras do :(

One of my old work colleages was flashed doing over 100mph and he knew it was over 100mph and as he already had 6 points he called his solicitor who advised him to send his licence to the DVLA straight away. The idea being that the DVLA just issue the points then when the letter comes through you have already recieved your punishment and cant be prosectuted twice.

Left work before I found out if this worked or not but hey might as well give it a try if you find yourself in the same situation.

14 days for a NIP (Notice of Intended Prosecution), therefore you should now be in clear.
