View Full Version : silly computer thing
I ought to know, but don't.
For reasons best known to itself, my keyboard numbers and most of the top row of keys have decided not to key. The number pad works with num-lock, and the - and = work, as do a few shifted symbols, but no numbers.
How do I get them back please?

Have you tried plugging the keyboard into another machine to see if the problem is with the keyboard or a setting in software?
Don't have access to another machine, I'm at home on the one and only PC.
I'm sure it happened once before and it got fixed, but I can't for the life of me remember how.
Is it a multi-function keyboard? Where the number keys have a dual purpose? There may be another "lock" key that you've hit inadvertently?
Well, assuming the keyboard is fine(well how old is it?) well shall have to start the usual debug process.
What Operating System are you using?
XP home, keyboard is only a year or so old.
I'm sure it's a setting somewhere, though I haven't intentionally changed anything recently, nor installed any new progs. AV is updated every few hours, daily scans and no viruses etc that I know of, everything else is working as normal, just those digits.
I'll maybe try a restore to a few days ago, can't hurt. Thanks for the attention.
Go to your keyboard setting in your control panel and make sure that it is set for a 102, 105 whatever keyboard type you are using.
