I really don't get Slipknot.
Whats to Get. A load of 30-40 something blokes who think its great to con the yoof of today out of thier hard loaned, and lure them into thinking that they are young blokes. Hence the masks. They can swap the 'group' around and no one is any the wiser.
As for the music, sounds like a bomb going off in a guitar shop.
Still, i like some of thier tracks.

Right, don't get me wrong, I love speedpicking John Petrucci style and I love technical fireworks Steve Vai style with the tapping, whammy bars / pedals and wah wah all thrown in, but they usually serve a purpose in the context they're played in (I said usually!!!). To me, these guys just sound like "hey I'm cool, I can speedpick faster than my drummer can play double bass drum like he's riding a fricking bicycle going downhill!".
Each to their own. :D

Sic is still one of my favourite songs by them i think.
Didn't really like this song as it seemed too far away from their original sound, but I'm stillg onna buy the new aklbum as I'm sure there's gonna be some good stuff on it.

That Dragonforce song is one of the better I've heard by them- but I agree it's a bit too over the top- Dream Theater, also over the top from time to time at least have a bit more judgement in their songwriting and arrangements.
I'm getting quite into Symphony X via YouTube- though they are quite ott for a different reason (the vids for a start!!!)
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence and Images & Words are probably my favourites, though Train of Thought gets an honourable mention for it's sheer heaviness!

I regularly listen to stuff a lot more 'screamy' than slipknot, I don't really find them that heavy anymore compared to stuff like chiodos, dance gavin dance and blood brothers, that sort of thing. I'm quite cynical with music though :(
Erm .. nope each to their own but this is the stuff that I liked when I was 12 and grew out of it for decent music ;)

I don't like it at all. Maybe it's because I haven't listened to any Slipknot for years.

Or maybe it's because I have been listening to Feeder's new album for weeks and Slipknot are a bit too heavy (*snigger* I just said Slipknot were heavy!) for me at the moment.

What other really heavy bands are out there? I am always looking for the heaviest, nastiest and most evil music going. I found Black Metal because I was looking for the heavy stuff, hence the Burzum etc. Got into Death Metal first though via Sepultura and Slayer, but later found Bathory. :smt060
