View Full Version : Mmmmmmm fat
The people I live with have just bought a deepfatfryer. I've never had one before so it's all v exciting :-D
Anyone got any suggestions of what we should try frying tonight?
Chip shop near us now sells 'Battered Chips'
Or there's Mars Bars, Snickers, KitKats, etc.
Deep fried Wine Gums are supposed to be nice.
Battered Burgers, Spam Fritters, Bananas...
You name it, you can DFF it.

omfg, battered chips? genius!!
we bought some mini chocolate bars especially and also some maltesers.
Just make sure you remember to change the fat regularly as per instructions.
You may think it looks OK - but constantly reheating fat will change its chemical structure to one that is actually carcenogenic! Hence the stringent laws for catering places n stuff.
I wonder if you can fry jelly! ;)

Stuffed zucchini flowers! Or 'courgette' in real English. Stuff them with blue cheese and then deep-fat fry. I'm sure you can google a recipe on the web. Super tasty :D

I reckon the novelty will wear off before the fat turns into carcinogenic evilness!!!
Hmmmm, battered jelly. I suspect it would melt and make a biiiiiig mess.

But may it still act a little like Baked Alaska and the batter insulate the jelly a bit... probably not. Perhaps experimentation with cubes of undiluted jelly is required...
... all in the interested of science don'tchaknow. ;)

I was wondering that.
I suspect that, due it being a house full of engineers, a fair amount of experimentation will occur :-D
I'll try and remember to take photos of any surprising successes and failures. I can't wait.

Deep fried turkish delight
Hmmmm - marshmallows?
If I could get hold of some veggie mashmallows that would defo be a goer. As well as being a bunch of engineers we are all veggie too.
I want to make these http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Churro
I can see some artistic use of a piping bag normally used for icing may be required. I wonder if you squirt the dough/batter in to it in a fast circle, will it result in a spiral of fried goo - like a curly chip?

I will take pics and report back :-)
Anyone tried making doughnuts?

Deep fried Pizza
end of
(you need to use the REALLY cheap freezer store 1,000,000 for a quid ones - the ones where the topping is sprayed on)
Then deep fry it - batter is an optional extra.

I don't think a pizza would fit in it.

See, living in Scotland has somewhat jaded my views on Deep Fat Frying, it's all so.... last Millennium up here!
You name it, the Scots have fried & eaten it!!! ANY Meat, ANY Vegetable, ANY Confectionary, if someone could deep fry Beer then the chippies up here would do it!
Scotland, second only in the Obesity table to the US of A!

Deep fried Pizzas are good, the Mars Bars are delicious but after a couple of bites you can actually feel your heart trying to wring itself out like a sponge!
Enjoy!!

Cut 2 circles out of sliced bread using a cooking cutter, dollop of jam on one, then put the other bit of bread on top. Nip the edges down all the way round (like the edge of a pasty) and fry it. You wind up with something akin to a doughnut, very nice. Be careful to let them cool though; the jam gets ridiculously hot.
