Hello..........

But first I need to prep my bike a bit. Its in good order generally and im sorted with luggage/tent and stuff.

I need to clean my chain properly, what should i use? Parrafin? White spirit?

Anything else i should check???

Im getting excited about being on the road for a few days with nothing else to think about but riding:wink:

Cheers fellow .orgers.........

I use a degreasant called Soc, but any will do.
Get a ketten max chain cleaner, they are brilliant!! Save you so much time and effort. Just put it over the chain, put some degreasant in and spin the wheel. The chain will come out like new! I can't praise them enough

I'm sure you're serious about this Kwak. Not to be outdone I did polish the rear sprocket to mirror shine. A job to keep it spiffy though.

I cut pieces of card held together with wide masking tape to cover the side of rear wheel up, then use a piece of foam saturated in parafin to clean the chain, use another foam saturated in oil then spray Castrol Chain wax to finish off. Castrol Chain wax is a great product for the job of keeping things factory perfect.

Then once its clean take it out for a short ride as the loose paraffin will fling a bit, then when you get back give it a nice oil. Do give it to much welly as the paraffin is your only lube for that ride and you just want to loosen its all off, its best to oil the chain when its warm so that why you do it when you get back.

Well that's what do...

I missed the part in that i wipe it clean with an old rag after doing the parafin bit and also with another rag after the oiling. Some oil spray does get on my rear wheel after all this but easily cleaned with a clean rag and a little wd40 when I get home.
