Heya All
What a great day....Lily passed her test and I got to hand in my notice today!!!!!!
Recieved the contract by email today. I not only get a sizeable salary jump but also now will have the responsibility of managing people which I have been wanting to do for ages.
Just wanted to share with the org as it has been such an amazing day.
I am on cloud nine right now.

Gratz, but +1.
People are a right pain in the backside.
Just wait til they start phoning in sick when you are off. Guess who has to go in to fill in for them. Thats right. You.
Fingers crossed you get a good bunch, because you can't fire people these days even if they are rubbish. Its against their human rights don't you know:smt071

Congrats to Lily and did you jump before you were pushed?!!?
LOL
Managing people can be the most rewarding part but it's also the most stresfull. I used to love it though I do like the complete lack of resposibility I have now!!

People are a pain in the ass
Wait till your boss tells you to choose 50% to go and you agonise, who has just had a baby, who has just bought a house, who is crap at their job etc.
Then you have the I don't earn enough, I am better than them etc.
My advice is avoid people responsibilities

I am already kind of managing 2 people already, due to my boss being involved in projects all the time. But I do his job with no reward.

Just by way of an update.......
I handed my notice in on Monday, next thing I know is.......I am in a meeting with senior management, saying "What can we offer you to stay?".
I am now moving from my Finance role into a project management role as a Business Support Analyst with a 27% pay increase!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so chuffed, was looking forward to moving, but its nice to know how valued I was and they are going to support me through Prince 2, both parts......so yeh.

Or to look at it another way, what suddenly changed to make you worth 27% more?
I would have walked - and have done in the past.
If they can suddenly pay me more/move me now, why didnt they do that 3 months ago.
But I guess I have been messed around enough to know that you cant trust them
put does this mean you get your own pen?
well done

I did ask that question......they said that they were not aware of my aspirations. It turns out one of the senior Directors said that they were going to loose me from Finance either way but couldn't afford to loose my experience completely and there are a great deal of projects they wanted my help on, but couldn't as I was part of BAU.

good on ya Drew-
continuity with more money and a fresh challenge.
brilliant
agree on the managing people thing- I just manage the odd 100 for a couple of hours a day now and then never see them again-
its the future.

Fair enough, although it sounds like one of your first jobs should be to over-haul the companies Review Process - where people see their career going in the next 6/12/24 months should be part of that.
Oh and while I was moaning I forgot to add
Woohoo Gratz :)
Congrats Drew!
I'm with SoulKiss, I'd of still walked. If it takes threats to make them wake up, it's just another sinking ship.

Aside from the new role......to be honest I couldn't turn down the money.

You have a point there, but I'd of still walked.
Save up the money, then jump sideways - so you keep the role you're going to be in, and the pay, only with a different company. :)
Does this mean i can go out shopping?! ;)

I have been wanting out of Finance for some time now, but obviously its very difficult to get out of something so targeted......my aim is to get full Prince 2 done and dusted and then move into project management elsewhere.
