Just listening to this on their Myspace site.
If not in the league of A Northern Soul, it edges more in that direction than Urban Hymns.
All good stuff- I'll be getting my copy come payday.

I got my copy a few days ago. Oh dear... its not very good its nowhere near in the league of Urban Hymns let alone A Northern Soul.
Its lacking a spark theres no soul, its just sounds like Richard Ashcrofts solo stuff with some Nick McCabe guitar parts dribble over a couple of the songs, it doesnt gel together, I've tried to listen to it to see if it'll grow on me but it doesnt its terrible.
To much Ashcroft not enough Verve... I'm disappointed.

Yeah- I didn't buy it in the end- cash reasons. I posted that message halfway through as well- then there was a very angry punky song that I didn't like so much and didn't sound very 'The Verve'.
I think he had so much to write about emotionally before- which is why A Northern Soul is one of the best albums ever, but he's a bit more settled these days, so the writing doesn't have the edge and connection that it used to.I think soundwise it touches on most of their previous material.
There's some nice sounding stuff there, but nothing amazing. I'll still get it though.

Ashcrofts lyrics have never been the best, but on the previous albums they've been given equal importance as the music, now his voice is just to prominant and there isnt room in the mix for the band.
The Verves rhythm section have always been one of the finest and thats been forgotten about. Its all about Ego.
they should have stayed split or put more effort into making a better album, this just sounds like 4 guys have got in a room and played for a bit rather than actually thinking about what they wanted to make.
