Or a

http://autos.webhostingoverview.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/porsche-boxster-s-2005-800x600.jpg

They are both about the same sort of price (2nd hand). My dad wants me to get a Porsche for some reason .. so I am edging toward that at the moment to keep him happy ... but I would more like to own a 1098 than a Porsche ...

So to tip the scales, which one would make me more attractive to the opposite s3x??

I kind of am bored of bikes, but just coz I own one (or the car) doesn't mean I'd have to ride/drive it (much) ... lets face it, things like this are more of a want than a need ...

Oh and if you think talking to girls might make me more attractive to them ... clearly you have never had a conversation with me!!

True enough, they are more into ovens, hoovers and cross-stitch!?!? ...

A Porsche Boxster??? Really???

Yeah, I know they are labelled as a poor mans 911, but only people who can't even afford a boxster say that ;)

To the layman (which I am when it comes to cars) ... there is very little difference between a boxster and a 911 to look at - the performance differences are irrelevant to me ..

Whilst the Boxster is a very competent car it does have a bit of an image problem, unwarranted in my opinion. Having said that, we test drove the Boxster twice and on both occasions bought a different car: a Nissan 350z and S2000.

Bit of a strange choice IMHO, is it just a weekend toy you are after? Have you considered anything else? You want something that will keep your interest how about a TVR? Leary enough to be interesting and the chicks dig them (I should know, I have one!:D)

But replying to your title question, get the 1098, the Boxster will make you attractive to the same s£x ;)

Trace :)

P.S. Not a good idea to buy something to please someone else, you will just get bored and resentful that you didn't buy what you wanted in the first place.

Buy the bike, and pretty much every other biker will point & laugh at the fact you've thrown money down the drain (it's ducati reliability at a permium cost!).

Buy the car, and every bloke will point & laugh that it's an extension of your gender due to being middle aged.

Those porsches are girls cars.

Those ducati's are nice, and no doubt you will be able to ride it very well. But you'll just have it for posing, which is kind of disrespectful of the technology you'll be buying. And then when you don't want to pose no more, you'll take it on a track.............and possibly bin it.

Drugs and Hookers... Gets my vote!:stupid:

From "What Hooker" Magazine
When you are looking for a nice hooker, check the teeth and gums for disease first. Street tarts can be of varied quality, but the classifieds sections of your local paper can get you a nice lady for the evening at a very reasonable cost.

Someone said Boats? :D What you need to know? If you want something fast but posh you need to look at cruisers!! Fairline, Princess, Azimut, Cranchi are just a few makes.

I would like to advise you now though that the cost for a 2nd hand one is £120k upwards......depending on size obviously but something around the 30ft mark.

Also take into account mooring, servicing, insurance

If u're interested this is an expensive hobby to have :) This is an excellent example LINK (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Princess-360-MOTORCRUISER-cabincriuser-boat-SOLD_W0QQitemZ220262997921QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item 220262997921&_trkparms=72%3A1121%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C 240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14)

Not to me! Owning a boat is a way of life....though here in the UK I'm not sure where you'd use it to go as the sea is rough and the weather most of the time $hit.

But many Brits will buy a boat and keep it in a marina abroad and then just go for their holidays and use it going around the places there.

Boxster is a GREAT car. Very good handling, great balanced chassis, very quick fold down roof

DOn't expect to be wowed by straight line pace though. ITs plenty nippy enoguh, but IMO needed more power. I've not tried the modern S range, but I can't see 20bhp or so giving much more "umph".

Still, i'd take a Benelli, and buy a runaround car, with some change still left over, rather than either of those two.

As for poor mans porkies, only ever said by people with no idea what a boxster can do ;)

Sound advice that.

About Porsche's and such.......

There once was a mouse and an elephant that became the best of friends.
They were such great mates that everyday they went strolling about the jungle.
One day while they were walking, they were so involved in conversation that the poor elephant, not watching where he was headed, stepped into quicksand.

The elephant struggled but only began to sink deeper.
"Don't worry" said the mouse. "I have a mate who lives near here that owns a Porsche!!! It's so powerful I know it will pull you out with no trouble."
So away the mouse ran and soon returned riding in a shiney Porsche with his friend.
They quickly hooked a rope the elephant and the car instantly pulled him out. The elephant was quite grateful to his friend and promised he would do the same for him one day.

Well as fate would have it, he wouldn't have to wait long.

The very next day...... again the mouse and the elephant were strolling about the jungle, deep in conversation, when this time the mouse wandered onto the quicksand.

"Help, help" cried the mouse, "go to my friend's and have him bring the Porsche 'round so you save me !!!"
"There no time for that" said the elephant,"you are too small and will be taken under before I can reach his house. I have another plan."

The elephant walked carefully around the quiksand and then spread his four legs as wide as he could apart and strattled over the pool of quiksand.
"I'll lower **** down" said the elephant, "grab hold of it and I'll pull you out."
The mouse was about to sink so he grabbed the elepahnts big **** and was pulled to safety.

And the moral of the story is:

If you have a big **** you don't need a Porsche!

I wouldn't go for that one. For 2k more you can get a 2003 with less miles. The 2003 was the 'facelift' model where you got a whole load of upgrades. It also has the glass rear window and that means that there is less need for a hardtop. The chat amongst most boxster owners is that you don't need one, especially as they cost about £800!!!

I had a Porsche a few years back a 944S2, and although most people would argue not a proper Porsche I loved it and it was the car I always wanted. Job done!

If you've always wanted one buy the actual one you always lusted after as a boy and enjoy owning it, sod what everyone else thinks.........

2k is realistic, just not common.

Piston heads is a good place to start. You can set up subscriptions with criteria, so if you are quick then you can get the good deals first.

Bizarely, now is a very good time to buy, because prices have fallen a lot. There's some good buying guides on the web. Stick to 18" wheels, 19" don't ride right, and get the options you want because its expensive to retro fit stuff.

Any questions pm me... :-)

Why don't you get an older 911?

I had a Porsche a few years back a 944S2, and although most people would argue not a proper Porsche I loved it and it was the car I always wanted. Job done!

If you've always wanted one buy the actual one you always lusted after as a boy and enjoy owning it, sod what everyone else thinks.........

Everyone used to mention mid-life crisis to me, then I sold the Porsche and bought a bike, oh maybe they had a point!!!
Back in 1987 my Neighbours bought a brand new E reg 924S as their 'always wanted a porsche' car, now that was lame - they were so precious about it too, kept it garaged all the time & hardly drove it - must of cost them a fortune in depreciation

Secondhand 944 - can't see anything wrong with that 8)

But that is equally just a poor man's porche :???: must be just as many if not more (women) who would appreciate the car being newer than what model it is.

Although I wish I had the money & had seen this in time

I'd rather get a younger one as it'd potentially be less troublesome and prices of 911s get silly when you get only a few years old ... so I'd rather have a mint/younger £16-20k Boxster than a older 911 ...

If having a 911 was my dream, then I'd buy a 911 and sink some more money in ... but as I am not actually going to use it (much) and it is only a tick in the box, a 5yr old Boxster should be more than enough to say I've done it!! 8)

I also wanted to be an astronaut ... . . .. lets hope domestic space travel (for non millionaires) becomes a reality soon!! :D

Ah, I was not looking at it from the "poor man's" point of view...I would just rather have a 911 as although the Boxster handles well, etc, I don't think it's a patch on a 911, especially in terms of power. So I'd rather pick an older 911 :D

But I still stand by my original choice of a TVR Cerbera, but it appears to have been discarded :( I reckon that will pull the ladies more than a Boxster, but that's just IMO...

I certainly agree with fulfilling childhood ambitions (or any ambitions) when and if you can. But you said in your first post that it was your old man pushing you in to the Porsche?

What car do you really want.

Buy that one

TVR backup is very poor at the moment though ;) And you need parts backup with them.

Whats your budget, makes a lot of difference as to what you can get.

Yes very poor right now lol :p

I guess Porsches other than the high-end models (GT2, GT3) don't stir any emotion in me - too common, etc. The high-end models are still special, as are the TVRs. I am in love with Cerberas :D

Didn't sound like Blue had a budget, if he is looking at £130k boats

Boats are expensive to run, very expensive!!!! In fact, I heard that a motoryatch is THE most expensive thing you can buy and run (ex planes and choppers). A speedboat will get boring, a jetski is FAR FAR FAR more fun.

The only thing about porkies i dont like (and modern rarris), is that they are so fast out the box, even a total novice can get them round the track nearly as fast as a pro driver.

TVR though, that takes some work, and thats what buying a sports cars about, doing some work, enjoying the feelign that your driving at your limit, and well over the cars limit. Thats why my old 2.0 Corsa was so much fun, simple, raw, and required a lot of work to keep it on the straight and narrow. Great fun :)

Must admit, if i was going for a "toy" i'd much rather a caterham superlight 500 or something similar. Or a radical, not much of a women puller though.

But then using a car to pull women is gonna get the attention whoare kind, the ones that deserve a slap  (not literally before the haters start).

If he's looking at £130k boats, a boxster wouldn't be in my line up. £30k boxster range, yeah..

Wait for a KTM X-bow?

Also depends what he wants it for? Track? Pimpin? General A-B car? General Road toy?

RWD, 4WD, FWD?

So many options...

I have joked in the past/when I was younger to my day about buying a Porsche (which lad doesn't want a Porsche?! ;)). Realising that I am now in the position where I could actually get one (if I actually/really wanted one), he has been going on about it ... although its not the highest priority on my must do list ... it is on there ... so why not make the old boy happy/proud (before he croaks it randomly on me one day and it is too late)!!

Its not exactly a hardship owning a Porsche is it ;)

As for budget ... bearing in mind there is other stuff I'd like, I'd not want to spend more than £20k on Porsche!! .. but I was thinking nearer £10k and then I can treat myself to the 1098 too!! 8)
