View Full Version : Got my bike test this afternoon!!
Hi all. :smt039
Getting a bit nervous now. Got my test this afternoon at 2:30.
I had been having a nightmare with my U turns, they were fine to start with but after putting my foot down once the gremlins started!
I found another thread about this and read some really helpful posts.
My last lesson was fine and I did quite a few turns and they were all fine.:D
I don't remember being this nervous for my car test? (That was 14 years ago when I was a Cocky 18 year old tho!)
Hopefully be out on the SV later!!!
Good Luck you will be fine!!!!!!!!

Have a good one. Remember rev the knackers off of it to give more ballance and slip the clutch good. Though im sure you know that.
Good luck! Though I hope you dont need that.
Press the button to cancel the indicators every few seconds (except when turning, or waiting at a junction - obviously!
You'll be fine. Treat it as another lesson.
Good luck for the test, however if you are touch and go on the U-turn, this close to the new test if it was me i would take it on a 125 and pass , ok i would be restricted but hey at least i had my licence before the new test came in.
good luck.
i sucked at u turns and on the practice run with instructor before test i put my foot down on all but 1 practice un turns. on the actual test i just used bit too many revs slipped the clutch less than i would and used the back brake to stop it tearing away. i got a minor for it but hey. this was more luck than judgement.
you will be fine. i noticed that the nerves kept my concentartion sharp and talking to yourself through all the stuff outloud helped me.
any hoo good luck mate.
Thanks for the good luck messages!
I had been doing the U turns fine from the start on both 125 and 500's.
It was just the one time that I put my foot down that put doubt in my mind.
I know I can do them, it's just confidence (but not too much!!!)
I'll let you know later;)
Good luck, and all I can say is don't forget to turn off your indicators.

How did you do???
Thanks again for all the messages.
I PASSED!!!!
Got two minor marks.
Examiner said I was a bit close to a car I was following down a dual carraigeway, and the other for progress. ( I didn't overtake the car I was following and got to 65mph not 70!)
Just got back in from a ride out with my mate on his SV1000.
My textiles aren't that waterproof!

i took my test on my cbr125 and passed but i find it so much easier to ride a big bike than a 125 the control is far better.i did it on my 125 cause it was so much cheaper £190 for the lessons

 you had to ride on a dual carraigeway in colchester any dual carraigeway is to far away to go on , just slow roads and it really busy all the time so you dont go far . congrats mate:D
It gets better.
Got a card from my wife with an early anniversary present. It's only a day at the Ron Haslam race school at Donnington park.
Going next wednesday. Talk about running before I can walk.:puker:
Can't see me getting my knee down just yet, give it a year or two:).

LOL it is a good question.
I passed my test and rode a 600 Bandit for just over a year and I would say the SV650 is BRUTAL compared to it.
Wind on the throttle just that little bit too much in the wet and the backs spinning up (it is fun though!!!!) :smt028

I had a gsf400 "mini bandit" (off rode before my test)...
passed my 1 day Das on a cb500 (ewwww)....
Love the sv......would like a 1000 tho..... :smt071
What do you think to the SV vs your test bike?
I did my test on a gs500. I didn't think it was that bad, although a bit small.
The SV is a LOT quicker, a little bit bigger and a LOT better to look at!
I do find the SV a little small as well.
I'm 6'5" and a few people have said that an SV would be too small for me, but I had my heart set on one!
Has anybody used one of the jack up kits using the longer dog bones?
I know this won't alter the distance between the seat and the pegs, but would raise the seat height a bit?

Good modification to do, helps improve the steering of the SV and makes us lanky people not look so stupid sat at the lights. As you said it will make no difference to the seat and peg distance, a nice set of rearsets will do that.
I'd recommend putting in some different springs in the front forks when you jack up the rear end, helps to balance out the SV's suspension again.
Jack up and lowering dog bones are available here (http://www.cjaccessories.co.uk/home.php?xid=1bd055ac5f3a6bac70c6421fcd7abe06).

I got 40mmon the SV800, but she is heavily modified and I am a front end rider. I'd go with the 20mm which is what I have on the SV650 with standard SV forks and progressive springs.

Different world...
The 800 pulls like a steam train and bounces off the higher (modified) rev limiter still pulling, 650's can't do this for a start! The 800 power wheelies, whether the road is flat or bumpy and the rear brake is getting a lot of use, especially out of corners. Handling well thats completely different again, the 800 is more planted but then the 650 is used for fast commuting only really. The 800 is very stable at mid apex, and flicks from side to side with ease, this is compared to the 650 which as we all know flicks from side to side so well. This is mainly due to the Curvy SV frame being so good out of the box, it is stiff but it also has flex spots.

Oh... very well, she catches a lot of the SS boys out when they try to use straight line power against me. The punch out of corners is excellent, out guns a GSXR600 K7 and an 06 ZX6R as she can lay the power down hard and just drive (running Avon Storms at the moment still). I am just looking for somebody with a 848 to pick on, as she fairs very well with a 748 but she did as a 750 though. :p

Working on it, need to get the home computer to work properly so I can upload it (can't upload from the work computer or add uncoded information on to it).

I bought the engine as a basic 750cc over eight years ago.
Since then I have rebuilt the bottom end with billet components and starting honing what a 750cc can really do. Since then I detuned her a little for reliability as the 750cc, for four years, was the only bike used for the 600+ mile a week commute. Then early this year I bought another Curvy 650 so the 750cc could get a good service (completely stripped, engine, chassis, and all components fully inspected) to be rebuilt as a 800cc.

I've got a spare SV engine if you fancy tuning it for me. ;)
Bought a non-runner (well a runner that had low compression in the front cylinder) for 50quid, turned out to be a small amount of water had got into the barrel and rusted it[1], clogging the rings up. Then a set of barrels and pistons off that ebay for 20quid and I've got an entire engine that should work if I ever properly put it together! :)
