Just an update and another querry, At the eccose rideout this weekend and battery was fecked, basically had to jump start the bike loads of times (cheers suicide sam:D), so trickled charged it up over a couple days, and dropped in when complete and the bikes starting, whats the next step? would have thought that given I'd rode for couple of hours the battery woudl have re-charged?

Obvious ones generator / rectifier?

Any advise welcome.

Good place to start is get a multimeter/voltage reader and hook it up to your batt. it should be reading just over 14volts if I'm correct anything less and it's probs your battery that's fecked. It's always the best place to start if your having power troubles.

Get a multi-meter and check the current voltage, see if it has any. Though if it now manages to start you bike it might not be that. So it would be a good idea to check the charging circuit, which you will need the meter for. All the details are in the Haynes manual if you have one, I'm afraid I don't remember it of the top of my head. I knew my reg/rec was fecked as it was over charging the battery to the tune of 17 volts.
