not a big fan of robbie williams but when my first son was born he was one thing that kept me going, so ''shes the one'' became ''hes the one''. used to sing it to him at bedtime. hes getting a little too big now, still sing it to myself though. awwwwgh.

This was the song I found when I split with my ex in November, still makes me cry now
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=lbcltLf2VHo
Some days I feel broke inside but I won't admit
Sometimes I just wanna hide 'cause it's you I miss
And it's so hard to say goodbye
When it comes to this, oooh yeah :dj:
This hymn (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njK5K_Vk5ys&feature=related), and The Last Post put things in perspective for me every November, occasionally inbetween
Everything else in "my life" seems pretty unimportant when you think what others, including some in my family have sacrificed, and are doing today, and tomorrow.

Aparently after Cash did a few covers - Hurt and Own Personal Jesus, one radio station did a phone in vote for "Cash version or Original", Johhny won them both.
However this version of Hurt (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57ta7mkgrOU) just has to be seen to be believed

The video to Hurt makes me cry, every time. A few things by Dance Gavin Dance make me feel very emotional. Flume by Bon Iver. Bridge Over Troubled Water (obv). Videotape by Radiohead. Today I Became A Realist and Time Will Bind Us... by Wax on Radio. Come All You Weary + Red Sky by Thrice. Most things by Circa Survive. Damn, I love music :)

Fake Plastic Trees by Radiohead is my all time no.1
Never tire of hearing it.
For Crying Out Loud - Meatloaf. Loads of passion in his voice on that track - stirs the heart, moves the soul etc etc.
Also...Hate Me by Blue October...really powerful lyrics...always play it twice when it comes up on the random player thingymebob...:cyclops:

I doubt that anyone here has every heard this, but Show of Hands cover of "No Song to Sing" has to be one of the most emotional songs I've ever heard. It makes people cry.
It's far too obscure to make it onto youtube.

Two songs that I get into a lot are;
Meatloaf - Bat out of hell; I just love the lyrics and the pictures it paints for me
The Killers - When You Were Young; The live version is excellent (IMO) and I love the video for it as well

OMG, where to start...
As much as I like the Johnny Cash cover, this is the original & best, and I don't mind admitting I shed a tear when I saw NIN live and they played this song. Trent Reznor's voice injects so much emotion into this song it's hard not to get swept up in it:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=gjwgYvzQWS4
This song might be an oldie but every time I hear it (except maybe the opening titles for CSI ) it stirs something up in me, although I can never quite figure out exactly what emotion it is:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=BSu_8ifaurM
And a song that inspires a kind of 'f**k you' attitude in me is 'One Day At A Time' by Symposium (sadly not on YouTube cos I don't think it was ever a single).

HAHA HAPPY - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=poUoCggQZd0 (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ijDsMdRFlIw)
GRRRR ANGRY!! - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-Fz85FE0KtQ

HMMM REFLECTIVE - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=y1svI-owtWA (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpkDSJZSSW4)
This is the song that seemed to be permanently stuck in my head when I first moved away from home, crap job, crap boss, crap pay, crap girlfriend, crap living conditions and a generally crap existence for a while. I think it's good to have these things to look back on as a benchmark for a period of one's life that should never be repeated.
SNIFF, SAD - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=wN7K0sw2dr0&feature=related
(http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=VVNTjPiRpMs)This wee song is a funny one, it doesn't remind me of anyone or thing in particular, I've never been happier during the time that this has been written, but maybe it's a reminder of days gone by - I don't know, I'm not a psychy (and if you are, leave me alone!)

Cash's version of Hurt obviously been mentioned so many times, I vaguely remember a Trent Reznor quote along the lines of "it's his song now" (he approved).
Not sure if it's already been linked, youtube not particularly work safe in an open plan office, but "Closing Time" by Semisonic is another one that does it for me.
sad - the show must go on - Queen
Inspirational - affirmation Savage Garden, Shine Take that
Bed of Roses and Dyin aint much of a Livin both remind me of long JD fuelled nights
November Rain and Don't Cry both make me cry
S*** List by L7 when i'm miffed off

Quite a few.
By metallica, fade to black and Bleeding Me get me. Fade to black got me through my cousin's death, and bleeding me...well, sometimes I feel that way. Don't we all?
Theres also the Foo fighters song, My Hero, which makes me think about my dad, reminds me to be thankfull for everyting he's done for me, and also my mum for the same reasons.
Theres loads of songs that make me feel a certain way, be it a good feeling or a bad feeling. Music is often all I have to work through stuff, how I feel, things I've been through.
Hurrah for the Almighty Riff
Cartwrim - you get my vote! Meatloaf wins handsdown...."Two out of Three" played for three days straight after my first heartbreak...

So it Goes - The Verve, one my favourite songs, it always makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I cant be a*sed looking on youtube for it. The Lyrics mean alot to me and that whole album got me through some very rough times after being hurt.
The Living Years - Mike and the Mechanics...
The lyrics of this song are really powerful and deeply sad and definitely brings a tear to your eye...this was written out of personal experience too..:(

Oh also all of Brand New's album The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Of Me, that's a brilliant album and got me through a lot.

Having left it well alone for long enough to forget how sick I was of hearing it, and stumbling across it on YouTube tonight the intro strings to Bittersweet Symphony STILL (and will always) make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
Almost every minute of my late teens, good and bad, comes back to me when I hear that song, it's quite amazing really.
Oh - as good a reason to dig up an old thread if ever there was one!
Drugs dont work by the Verve
Push & Pull by Nikka Costa
Not really emotional songs but reflective songs!!!!!!!!!

Because of an extremely transitional emotional time in my life, leaving the old, entering the new...these two actually make Dizz cry.
Reminders of what was, what I lost, what I deserved, what I should have had, and what I eventually got, everything in between and back again, are in these two.
If ever you've had your heart ripped out, stamped on, and then given back, sellotaped up by someone else, then you'll understand.

Emotional? Anything that has been released by a 'winner' on X factor, Pop Idol or any of those talentless shows..
The emotion being mostly to self-harm, eat the Flat-Screen telly, or move to Borneo and become an Orang-Utan..

Sarah - Fleetwood Mac, I rember my dad bringing one of our dogs home from the vets after she'd been put to sleep. Then he buried her in the garden
Acker Bilk - Stranger on the shore. Reminds me of the great times I had stayin at my Nan's, as I used to play it on her radiogram

This is why I love music so much. To me, it is memories. I associate music with memories and times in my life, good and bad. It's amazing the power they have. With welcome to my world, it is played on holiday adverts in the summer and I really struggle not to well up still but it's happy memories, bittersweet I suppose.
