not from the .org! My cricket club. I moved in with my girlfriend back in november 35 miles away from where i was. I had already decided to keep on playing for my club, and didn't think it would be a problem - only it is. I play at a fairly high standard through south essex and into east london, but as i now live in north essex it's about a 70 mile round trip. This means i leave home early for the game and don't get a chance to socialize with my mates after coz i want to get back to my girlfriend for the evening. It sounds like a really easy decision BUT i really love the club and all my team mates. So do i note clubs? Do i stay and burn a gallon and a half each weekend of diesel? I'm on a knife edge....

That's my daily commute. What's the point of socialising in a different club were you don't like the people so much. I would stay.

If you rush home to be with your girlfriend 6 days a week then what's the deal with doing the same thing on the 7th?!

Stay at the club, socialise and realise that whilst you've made a commitment in moving out of the area to be with her - you still need a bit of your own life y'know.

If you get married, you will need an out :)

The other issue is that I'm stuck in the 2nd team, and really want to get back into the 1st team. I have a feeling that the 1st team is stuck in stone, and I won't be able to get back in to it. I'm 30 and have probably 5 years of bowling at my peak - I want to make the most of that...

Oh well in that case don't bother to fight for your place, move to a rubbish club where you can be the big star.

Just get used to losing. A lot! ;)

If you want to get into the first team..assuming you have been there before there is no reason why you shouldn't get in on merit. If it really is a closed door then I guess you have to evaluate whether you want to fulfill your ambitions in the 2nd team or elsewhere. On the GF front why not get her to come along to a few games. If she drives you can have a beer or two afterwards ;). You can get the best of both worlds for a few weekends.

Now I get bored watching cricket, there's no way in the world I'll put my lass through that!

Tiger 55 - Been there, done that. It's actually very boring bowling against people who neither have the ability or the brains to bat against me when I'm bowling. Yes, it's nice to take wickets, and even better when it's lots of them. But it is so hollow when there is no contest.

My mate has spent all this season travelling to Fareham from SW Scotland to play for his club. Air miles galore. Stay with it .A better standard is more fun.

As you are considerate enough not to wish to put the young lady through the ordeal of watching you play for no good reason - why not give her a reason & teach her the black art of scoring ?

As for whether you should move or not move - +1 for NOT !!

Cheers for that 'Vox. Tis really a black art indeed (esp when it comes to scoring shots off of no balls!).

I think I will stay another season, they are a great bunch and I'm really desperate to get into the 1's!

Got a training session with me coach this evening, so will be peppering me mate and I owe him a nice juicy bruise! Remember folkes that revenge is sweet, but not fattening!

+2 to what K said.

I play hockey through winter and have to travel some distances for that - I carried on playing for my club in Wolverhampton though I live in Birmingham. You've got to have your own space mate and as much as you want to spend time with your gf she'll still be there when you get back. Or the next day.

I must admit I gave up playing cricket when I went to uni and started hockey instead. Cricket all Saturday and Sunday afternoons just took up too much time. But if you love it stick with it.

Cheers,
Matt

+1 for stay
Trust me - when you get married, at some point you're hobbies will start becoming more important again (for whatever reason) and you'll realise that you compromised too far and ditched your club to watch Britain's Got Talent or whatever.
If you enjoy the club, stick with it. If not, jack it and be back in time for Cowell/Ant & Dec etc!
Alternatively, your life could be married bliss, so ignore my cynicism!
