Hi all, just wondered if anyone can offer any advice on the possible repair of a curvy front rim... I'll try and post acouple of photos, a BLIND teenage blonde & car full of teenagers, forced me off the M1 this afternoon on their way home from the Leeds Festival..... cannot imagine how she didn't see me as I was on a YELLOW curvy, wearing a YELLOW helmet, and a HI-VIZ YELLOW vest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:smt076

rant over !!

I'd thought of dolly'ing it with a copper mallet/block of wood....

Failing that, has anyone out there got a replacement wheel perhaps?

cheers

John

Well, she wouldn't do it again if you did... how did you get forum access at the side of the M1? :p

More seriously though, I'd be looking towards a new wheel off the other vehicles insurers, if there isn't something in the picture that alters the apparent blame.

She continued driving, while I was performing a "trying to stay on my motorcycle feat" consequently she's probably sat at home now laughing with her 17 year-old peers drinking tinnys...........

Replacement front wheels tend to expensive as they are often damaged in prangs.Depending on how bent it is it can be straightened, but I think it should be done professionally. There are engineering firms that can do it but I cant remember who does what off hand.Im sure someone on here will supply a name or two though.
???Motoliners????Alf Hagon???

Riding home from a trip to Tan Hill with nobby, on M1 approaching the last junction before the turn-off to join the M62 (Hull & Manchester) me in nearside lane, nobby in front, Blue Vauxhall Corsa in middle lane opposite me decides oop's this is my turnoff, and pulls immediate left into my lane, without observing...... at this point I made eye contact with a youth sat in the passenger side rear seat, who must have alerted the young girl driving who immediately looked round also making eye contact with myself (blank look)...

but it's too late........the car door had made a gentle but firm contact with my right outside leg, causing me to veer up the exit sliproad she had been intending to exit herself..... I would estimate I was doing 60 mph..... I processed all this infomation in a split second (as you do) and decided to turn left away up the exit road, as my best hope of salvation, rather than go grass-tracking up the banking...

but it's too late......... I have travelled JUST too-far to make contact with the tarmac, and instead ride up the concrete drain at the right-hand side of the exit sliproad, full of grit dirt and ****... the poor curvy goes into tank-slap, and I just wrestled away subconsciously, (oblivious to any vehicles which may, or may not, have been on my left on the exit ramp), finally managing to regain vehicle control, ride out of the gutter and emerge onto the exit roundabout. I rejoined the M1 and made the intended exit onto the M62 Westbound where I caught back up with nobby..... (no sign of any Blue Vauxhall Corsa's)....

that's pretty much all of it... but it all happened so fast and unexpectedly that's all I can recollect... upon inspection the right-hand side of the wheel rim's dented, and part of my Road-tax licence holder, and tax disc, have vanished......

fortunately I remain sound of wind and limb..........:D

I'd be quite supprised if that couldn't be straightened out. Maidstone motoliner will fix it for about £55 per wheel, though you have to provide them the wheel, without the tyre (and preferably without the discs).

www.motoliner.com (http://www.motoliner.com)

Used them in the past and they've been very good

That's why I maintain that doing 120 in the outside lane is usually the safest course of action at all times

Sorry to hear, & well done for keeping it upright, but maybe up your observations next time for all the muppets on the road (like me! :D)

+1 on Motoliner. & check out ebay for a cheap courier to post it to them.

Im 99.9% sure the tax disc was there when we got back to Birstall, must have dropped off after that...

It was Tony Benson that brayed that alloy rim out using a soft mallet..

That sounds remarkably subtle, for Tony.......:smt021

They may have to damage the paintwork to straighten it out. I handed them a jet black wheel that started life as blue:
"We weren't sure what colour to touch it up with..."
"It's cool, I paid you to straighten it, not clean it":D

Looks like a job well done! Feeling a lot happier about the doing the same thing with my rear wheel. Did you have to strip the wheel down, or just take off the tyre?

Well, I've just got my wheel back and it looks really good! Just need to fit the tyre and give it a couple days to make sure it holds air. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction mate!

Nice job. I'd consider binning the tyre if you haven't already done so.
