View Full Version : The zorst has to go!
Right its nearing the end of the month and with that brings pay day, in turn bringing me toys!!! :D So i'm now making up my mind which exhaust is going to be taking the place of the rocket i've got at the mo.
I'll Post up 3 of my favourites but one is leading the running
Number One is my personal favourite because of price and looks. Its the Yoshimura R55 in S/S. I've found a place in america selling them for £270 delivered, now am i (if i go this route) going to get stung for alot of import tax or is the saving out weighing that?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&viewitem=&item=370075494620
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u175/1RichSV650/08_gsxr600_r55_header.jpg
Number Two is the Akrapovic HEX (seriously considering this can). I haven't looked properly yet but probably looking at £460 for this exhaust  I know its alot!!
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u175/1RichSV650/Akra.jpg
Number Three is the Racefit Growler, Looks cool and is suppose to sound great, but isnt road legal so is abit risky and costs £499 just for a slip-on.
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u175/1RichSV650/SP_A0098.jpg
If any of you have seen any of these exhausts cheaper anywhere or have any input on them please share your wisdom!!!
Poll added too cus we all like a good poll!!!! :D
Cheers Rich

Gotta be the Yoshi
Are you on Gixerjunkies ? I've heard a few people on there say the growler is to loud and they've taken them off again...

I think the race growler looks the nicest but the first one is a lot cheaper and still looks great. Although I poll voted the Growler :) I reckon the Yoshimura is what you should go for.

Yeh im on there but don't post much. I know it's antisocial but it looks soo cool. I think it could be 500 wasted pounds as the :plod: woozles :plod: would probably have something to say about the noise!!

The Akrapovic is too big for a gsxr. Don't like the coloured link pipe on the Growler and the hanger is HUGE!
I'd go for the yoshi but in a dull metal if available, like titanium. But that's just because I don't like shiny bits:)

If you're seriously considering that Akra you have to be considering the Yoshi R-77, no?
The Akra sits at a weird funny angle, see the pic - it needs to point more upwards and the can needs to be further towards the engine, the hanger is too near the link pipe. In fact, it needs to look like a Yoshi R-77 :D
See kwak's GSX-R600 K7 test ride thread for a pic of mine on the bike - in CF but also available in titanium or SS.
Btw I seriously considered the Growler but rejected it, partly based on cost, but more based on the fact they don't seem to bother dyno testing their designs. I'm not bothered about not making any more HP, but the risk of making the bike less rideable, or losing HP, bothered me, especially when added to the cost (R-77 was £250 but I picked it up ;)).

Yoshi defo - the akra is too old fashioned and the racefit looks like a stubbied hack job IMO of course.

Of the 3 you've shortlisted i'd go for the Yoshi, but like DarrenSV650S my personal choice would be in titanium or carbon. If you want something similar to the Acra but a bit shorter then have a look at Two Brothers, Leo Vince or Arrow who all list slip ons for the GSXR600K8.

if getting from usa get them to write present on the side of the package , then you dont have to pay any tax or duty. i think the Yoshimura R55 looks the best

There is a 'gift' limit of the cost. Something small like $30. Also, most companies wouldn't do that in the first place as it would compromise their integrity. Just read the FAQ on international shipping on 90% of these companies.
I personally would get the Akra. It has a lot more understated style than the Yoshi and looks like it has a purpose rather than just to look glam/bling. The Yoshi's build quality is also reputed to be not so great (US versions)

Has to be the Yoshimura, they are well made and have an excellent sound.

I heard this too, but now I have one I'm not sure what I should be looking at? Quality looks fine to me, but then I don't have a jap Yoshi to compare it to!

Yeh i've been looking but they look all link pipe, plus with the CAT underneath it won't increase the sound as much as you'd think (from what i've heard) I'm liking the way the R55 covers the CAT too and from what the majority think on here im edging that way!!!

The Growler is really fugly and doesn't suit the bike at all.
Yoshi first, closely followed by the Akra.
Given that the current GSXR isn't allowed on some tracks with the stock exhaust, and none of these will make a perceivable difference to power....
Save the cash and put it toward tyres, track days and things that are fun?

27-08-08, 05:04 PM
As far as I am aware a stock exhausted GSXR is allowed on track days, the limit on noise for track days is higher than the road legal limit. So unless noise tested by idiots you shouldn't have a problem, if is it road legal it is track day legal.
It shouldn't be tested on the maximum noise it can make, and the OEM GSXR one is quite loud when it starts howling, like the EU laws it is at a set stage.

The Yoshi I have is not as loud as I expected (or wanted) - but it's only got 40 miles on it. I'll tell you for certain after a hundred or two :)
Many exhausts would struggle to really increase the volume - the cat stays on the K8. Someone on GJs even said they contemplated just running it without an end can it was quiet enough?! :smt043

I've heard a video clip on the tube of the k8 without a can on and it sounds nice but i wouldn't run it without a can thats just stupid!!!

£500 on an exhaust is f###ing mental. Spend it on petrol and tyres.
Or alternatively, chop the pipe off and save the £500 to pay fines with.

Yeah the stock can sounds nice, maybe that's my problem - too nice :p
I think it's mainly at lower revs where I want it to change the sound, I was browsing a few other clips on that first link, and for example my exhaust sounds like this one in the higher RPM: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=cM0-Vz6NJAc&feature=related
It does sound better at lower RPM too, just not that much louder. I'll see if I can't take a video of it some time, but to be honest it's hard to tell on video - e.g. that K4 with no can, you know it's loud cos it has no can, but to me it could have had a can...

Hahah...I thought the same initially, but the more I looked...the more I warmed to it - cos it's stubbier than the Akra it definitely helps. The Akra for the K8 is an abomination :(
R-55 is nice though - I just didn't go with it as I wanted to keep with the original style of the bike (full rather than stubby exhaust).

Unfortunately it won't :( it's not that dramatic a change! Cos of the cat...is my theory (and many others :)).
Look forward to seeing pics of the R-55...I thought about stubbying it too as mentioned, have you thought what you are doing with the pillion footpegs? I reckoned it was likely K6/7 ones would fit (so you didn't have the pointless hole on one) but never looked into it...
