Just picked up the latest Haynes SV650 & SV650S manual '99 - '08 and the bike on the front cover has ABS stamped on the front mudguard.

I'm assuming this is a non-UK variant?

As far as I remember, ABS is new to '08. I'm sure someone who actually does know this for sure will pop along soon.

Just looked at suzuki website, they list an abs equipped model in the US but there is no mention of abs on the GB website.

Yep, the Uk Sv had ABS form last year iirc.

*Waits for the entourage of people who reckon ABS is a bad idea as they are all riding gods*

Hmmm....I guess it was an option then?

I got my K8 in July and know from experience (as well as the lack of stickers) that there ain't no ABS!

Now then....is ABS a good thing or does it make you over confident etc etc?

My dad has it on his brick but doesn't care for it much. Personally I'd rather Suzuki spent the money improving the brakes. . . . .waits for the "nothing wrong with the brakes" comments.

ABS - pah terrible thing that it is.

I mean who would want something on their bike that lets you know via feedback through the pedal if you would have locked the rear, but without the rear having locked, so that you learn that you DID brake badly but have not been punished for it, and so can improve your brake useage to stop getting those "kicks" to the sole of your feet.

And who would rather have the front wheel rollling in a controlled straight line instead of sliding while locked, neither of which is particularly good at stopping you, but one is better way for things to be.

ABS - who would have it.........

Its not standard. There are 2 bikes, a ABS version and Non ABS version. So unless you ordered the ABS Version, you will not have it!

I am going to check this though, as this is form memory.

ABS is designed for one purpose. To stop the fornt wheel from locking (And rear in some cases) allowing you to stear round and obsitcle. Its not there to take away your manlyness. I would love to have ABS. It only works when you would need it anyway.

I thought ABS was a satanic device to make it impossible to bleed the brakes properly.

Aaahhh Brakes Spongy

Que spongy brakes threads

Didn't think we got an ABS version in the UK this year, everyone else has it but not us yet.

Same as on the Zed - mainly because it usually costs an extra couple of hundred quid, which the 1st time you have to brake hard on a manhole cover because some idiot ped stepped out from behind a bus and dont have to repair a fairing/can you make back.

I went for the ABS option because I do most of my riding in Central London, which is awash with manhole covers and stupid pedestrians (see how I managed to avoid mentioning moronic cyclists there) so it seemed like a plan.

Oh and also because I am quite secure in my manliness (note the spelling Viney :P)

Yes, ABS is a type of plastic.

It's also a not desperately accurate acronym for 'Anti Lock Braking System'

Well as Anti-lock is hyphenated, ABS is the PERFECT acronym......
