View Full Version : New MV Augusta 1078.
Dad had one on a dyno not long ago. Only 6 miles on the clock!!!!!!!!
187bhp @ rear wheel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Feck me, the old one made that at the fly, and still managed 187mph...
Are superbikes becoming TOO Fast for public roads AND racetracks?
Where-else but in america will people ever get that bike to speed. Maybe the first road bike to top 200mph???????
Wait till the bike has a few thousand miles on it, 190+bhp @ rear wheel anyone?
Mental, just thought some would be interested.

I tell thee where peple can do that speed
Autobahn, germany!
But having alot of power is safe, especialy if you are overtaking large lorries.
Yea, thats a good reason for me to get a GSXR1000 or an R1.

Or maybe Messie's R6 :)

Having power is safe. Having too much?
A lorry is limited to 56mph. This is a tad overkill lol
Would you really want to ride on a motorway with traffic at 200mph?

So thats how you run in an MV!
No wonder they going bust as warranty claims mount up.
New range of tractor engines coming from Milwaukee to sort it I hear.
TBH fella, you can run any modern engine hard from purchase. Like a new car, harder its ridden at first, it'll make slightly more power, but do less overall miles.
Run it in smooth, will make less total pwoer, but probably be more reliable and last longer.
Also not his bike, it was put on the RR for a reason.

That is pretty mad power... What i think they will start doing is the whole big/long bang power soon so to try and limit the power. Big/long bang engines make a little less power but they get more grip.
Crazy numbers.
Im impressed with MV too as their claimed dry weight is actually right. I think they claim 197KG, not like the others that make up a number that sounds good :p
TBH, the reason my dad sold his MV was due to
a) Shoulder wind pain (which has turned out to be a ripped muscle).
b) Top weight. He thinks it was a really top heavy bike, but fast as hell

Can't see any pics of the 1087. Is it the F4?
Regardless, I'm in love.

It does all depend where the bike carries it's weight. I jumped on a friends Mille and it felt a lot lighter than my RR. All the weight must be in the belly pan or something. It looks a physically big bike, but feels really light.

I wouldnt have an MV. I know I just wouldnt be bothered to ride it; ive sat on MV's before, they feel too race-focused, and therefore probably are too race-focused. A yamaha R1 feels good, and I havn't sat on a GSXR thou but they are ment to be a good compromise - if its anything like my dads 750, then that's a good road-riding position.
But, you know what, I'm doing just fine on my SV. i've had an easy 110 out of it - fast enough thankyou Mr Suzuki.

Im supprised it felt like that, most people say its the other way around... that might just have been to wind me up though lol... Aprilia bashing and all that.

TBH imo on the road these thou's are a little OTT now. I mean you cant get out of 1st gear without speeding, what use is that on the road? :(
Er, the Busa was the 1st road bike to top 200mph before some bright spark limited it. Doesnt the Kawaskai 1400 do the magic double ton?

Im not 100% sure it did... I know the origional busa got VERY close though, 196MPH I seem to remember was the official best.
The Kwak 1400 when derestricted apparently can do 198MPH but still doesnt quite get there :(.

The Kwak was (and is) produced in the restricted era, you can de-restrict them like the Busa though.

I have a friend who claims to have 214 (indicated) out of his Blackbird. That said, I have no real reason to doubt him as it is far from standard.

What the hell has he done
The thing is when you get to those speeds it takes like 30BHP per 5mph over 200MPH... So it takes some real push.

Indicated 214mph is probably not even 190mph unless he's supercharged or turbo'd it. No amount of air filters and exhausts will get you to 200mph! Better aerodynamics would have a greater effect than more bhp at those kind of speeds without spending a lot of money.
If he's changed the gearing (bigger rear sprocket or smaller front sprocket) then his speedo will go even further out than standard and this will exagerate itself the faster it goes.

The last sentence explains it all....
What you got to remember though, is that they are purley straightline weapons. The MV is a RACE bike, designed to go round corners, not about straightline speed....... Thats why i think its so amazing.
Italian bike FTW :D

There where plenty of tests that the Busa hit the double ton then they restricted it.

Only if they disconnect the speedo, the speedo over reads and when it gets to 300khm the restriction starts cutting in.

I dont think its restricted like that. I think it is limited in certain gears at certain revs. I think 5th and 6th. So it cant rev enough to do the speeds. At least thats what I understand it to be.

Correct, but it will also kick in like a rev limiter when the speedo reaches 300k so the speedo needs to be disconnected or at least jiggled with.

But with speedo inaccuracy such a problem you STILL wouldnt know how fast you were going if you left it connected.

True... you would have to go through all the effort of timing.

Indeed biggles... lol. Guess if the rev counter is accurate and you know the gear you can figure it out that way. :o
Never go by a speedo
Interesting...
"Suzuki put a rev limit on top gear 10,200rpm instead of 11,000rpm. They put alternative length trumpets in the air box and put small holes in the air box so that at speed there is less pressure building up. But you can buy the equal length trumpets, and bungs for the air box direct from Suzuki, and you can fit 1999 clocks to take the rev limit off top gear (the ones that go to 220mph). "
