View Full Version : What tyres...
After my recent off (snatched front brake) I have kind of lost faith in my tyres! They are Dunlop Speedmax (or something like that!). The rear is reasonably new, but the front looks like it needs changing to me (very low on tread). The tryes have always felt rather slippy, especially in damp conditions (like the ones that I fell off in!) but I am a total novice when it comes to bikes and rubber rings.
One of the first things that I will do when I put the bike back toagether (and my busted bones are fixed) is drive it somewhere to get new tyres!
Can anyone advise a decent tyre as a replacement? And your experiences of these tyres also please... Good or bad experiences welcome.
Thanks

Probably Sportmax's.
Nothing wrong with them unless that are bald.
In fact I can say with relative certainty that no tyre you could buy today is a bad tyre.
Still if changing them will help your confidence then go for it, the "special matched tyres" psycology of Days of Thunder DOES work.
I highsided on BT220's, (the 06 SVS stock tyre) and had people tell me that it was the fault of the tyre and I should change them when I got back on the bike - was off for 6 weeks with a broken collarbone.
In the end I didnt change them until they needed changing and you know what, they didnt get me killed or hurt.

I think you answered your own question. You had a front slide due to a grabbed brake and the tyre is worn out.You need to replace the worn out front tyre. The rear is probably fine, but you will notice a huge improvement by getting a tyre with tread for the front.
Braking finness comes with practice whatever tyres you are on.

I agree with all this, but confidence isn't common sense, if you totally lose faith in something no amount of knowing it's fine will make it feel fine again. Sometimes a change for its own sake can be worthwhile. Or as Robert Duvall said, "Special tyres, Cole!". And it does sound like the front is done in anyway. More information on the tyre- model number, as printed on the side- would be helpful mind.
