Have you ever had the urge to go out riding at night alone?
At 23:10 i decided to go a ride, Ive had a bit of a shi# day today and feel like life's on top of me, i needed time to be alone and think about things, well Ive just got back 01:30 and i must say i really enjoyed it!!
its like having your very own roads with no traffic! I'll certainly be doing that again:rolleyes: sometime you chill time dont you agree?

Its ok if the roads are well lit. If they are dark it can kinda be a bit intense. :(
When there are road lights though its good to help relax I agree :D
Glad you enjoyed it.

I used to have to do it 5 times a week when I worked night shift. I found that I could scare myself witless on roads that I found quite sedate in the daylight.

I've been thinking about this a lot over the last few nights. I'm yet to act on it though!

My neighbours would lynch me if I fired up the Viper can at this ungodly hour!
I find it one of the best times to ride. I like to get lost the other side of London, have a breather, take some snaps and then try and find my way home.
:)
I've been out for a blast for the same reason, but with my eye sight, my depth perception works a different way to other peoples, and its also slower, so riding accordingly.. I can only go out at bimble pace, but to have observations good enough for that pace i'm working harder than I might normally during daylight hours and pressing on :(
Can't wait to fit my HIDs :p

Used to love doing this when I finished work at 3-5 in the morning. No people, no traffic but best of all, no plod. Could hoon around without much fear of hurting others or loosing my license!

I disagree. The light of the headlights is enough for me (but then, I have uprated bulbs as well).
Nothing like the early hours of the morning screaming around Anglesey. Some of the roads have pretty severe bends (90degress on a fair few, and they come out of no-where). Add to that suicidal rabbits that like to jump out at the last second.
I find since I'm so focussed on the ride, I don't care about lifes problems, so it allows me some sort of escape & time to back off.

Love night riding, but not on lonely dark country roads, scares the hell out of me :-)

yes. I put on my one piece and wet for a blast, then crashed into a hedge. Ooops, moral of the story being if you are tired and bored watch a DVD or go to the pub, don't go for a blast on your bike. Having said that I quite enjoy riding through town at night when no one is about. it just feels really cool to ride through London or something and only see the odd taxi or Police car.

I wish I could do this, although after my ultra poo day yesterday I started drinking at 6pm and been up all night, infact going to bed now he he he. I have a bad head !! Have made some stupid decisions about my life whilst drunk but they seem a good idea so will give them a go lol...... one is a new job :s
five times a week from newport to bristol at 1 in the morning. i live right next to the m4 but i only use it to go over the old severn bridge.
i take the A48 to langstone, thorugh a couple of nice big roundabouts ;) then go through magor, rogiet and caldicot to get to chepstow. the bridge is awesome at that time of the morning, even better when the wind is blowing.
then a B road through eastercompton, again a few nice twisties. was a bit scary at first but i know the road now so corners are no problem. then fiddle my way into bristol to get to work
no cars, no people just quiet empty roads :)

Meeting the mrs at 10.30 tonight and guarentee i will enjoy the ride there on my own than the ride back. Headlights on mine are different to yours and are good but not that bright still but its ok if you know the road. I ride at a snails pace on roads i dont know.

coming home from work anywhere between 1 and 5 is awsome on the bike. night riding through the new forest is brilliant at late hours of the night. not brilliant for judging corner speed though!

He he. Last night on the lash I agreed to going on the Spanish bull run!
:)
Sorry to digress.

I've only ridden at night a couple of times but love it. Hardly any cars around so the roads are virtually your own. The headlights on SV's are pretty good too so that helps an awful lot. I used to have a Fazer and a tealight candle would have illuminated the road ahead much better than the lights on that thing - riding in the dark when it was raining was not the most fun I've ever had.
So, who's going to volunteer to organise the first midnight org rideout then? ;)
I believe they call it "dogging"?

Riding around London past mid night on a nice, dry night is great fun.
Can be a bit naughty though....;)

In town I always have one eye on mirrors, once made mistake of blatting past some 'stani on a quad in the town center, hit limiter in 2nd on main street and everyone in the queue for the nightclub ducked for cover :smt019 So now I'm a bit more wary of going through town.
Out on open roads though it's excellent, I have been known to turn lights off on a moonlit night, you can see any cars coming from miles away and go nearly as quick as in daylight. Just watch out for rabbits and sheep.

i don't like night rides.....very wary...do em a lot. Have to go to work in the dark and home in the dark in winter. However i do like the ride home from work in Autumn as the suns just coming up, and if its a nice day ...i go the long way round, no matter how tired I am
Once went down saddleworth moor with YC in the dark......I papped me pants

I kinda like night riding too but just remember that people are leaving pubs at that time of night. And if you're out in the sticks you are far more likely to encounter someone willing to take a chance and drive home.

this is always in the back of my mind too.
this is always in the back of my mind too.
The danger around here is hitting nocturnal creatures such as a deer. That would be painful.

ive had a few close ones in cannock chase at night with deer, i try not to think about it.

i go right out in the sticks, i once did the A32 and A272 in the early hours on way back from friends in Winchester and only overtook 3 cars.
both fantastic roads, go up it at dawn when no ones about and you can really crank the bike over over
Ended up doing a night ride last night as I was a little later than planned getting home  but then its something I enjoy now and then anyways :) Doing it to and from work during the winter is just not the same though :(
.... Just watch out for rabbits ...
Thats just a squish and away ;)
Now other thing slike sheep, deer and the night bear, badgers :smt103 are a problem though I wouldn't go riding over open moorland, at speed, if I knew there were sheep on the loose. Deer have a mind of their own but are more of a danger at dawn/dusk, its those pesky bears :( They tend to zigzag in front of you as you try and avoid them  Best idea is wait till the last second and hope they zig when you zag and pray :)

Open moorland at speed is the best bit
I want a supermoto for the roads round here, suspension travel on them you could probably just pop it over the odd sheep lol

Ya not daft enough to go up the Chase at night. Kwak, that's my night haunt at work, the passenger deer spots for the driver there are that many.
More fool you if you do tut tut tut

That road is awesome in the car, come from Cannock as fast as ya can and turn left without slowing (tower garage on right) take it out of gear and you can free roll to pottal pool island if you get it at the right speed. I would do this at night as this road is generally very busy LOL
Long way to go but it's doable, thats when you get fed up of looking for deer to aim at on the bike !
I would offer to show ya but I ain't going up the chase with you ;) LOL

So do I that's why I was very surprised you ride those roads in dark. Nice roads but too many hazards and if you did hit a deer and you ended up in a pile you wouldnt be found very quickly. Sorry being sensible and boring here in this one Kwak but I patrol those roads of a night and never see anything but deer LOL.
The amount of RTC's I've been to car v's deer, and the car is totalled ...... be careful !!!

I wouldn't recommend a bike Vs deer scenario...it makes a right mess. damn deer guts burn the paint on your engine casings and pink draggins go red!

Riding at 4 in the morning on a Sunday when no-one is about is the best feeling.
all i can say is Fife in scotland at night pure blisssssssss... no gatso's and no moble cameras... and verrry little traffic ... traffic plod in usual places (mainly in large towns) can spot them from miles and if you do come accross them they will pull you coz there board and want to chat.. no big deal
crash and you are there till morning, heard a story about a biker in ditch with bike on top of them with busted leg, found 2 days later... there are huge black spots for moble phones in fife... and in the crack of dawn its just heaven.... werdist thing that ever happend to me whiles out in the wee hours was har rolling off from the hills about a foot deep .. had to stop for about an hour till it disapeared ... couldent see the road ..

Night riding is good cos it's empty...something eerie doing it through normally-busy streets, etc.
However surely early morning riding has to take the biscuit ;) it's empty, just like night riding, but it's light & in summer (*cough*) it's often sunny! Birds tweeting, crisp morning air, zooming along cos the roads are still empty @6am or whatever...brilliant!
I will try this when I get mine back, probably only time in London when the roads aren't awful!

For me, getting up early Sunday morning for a ride has replaced the need to go out and get s**tfaced on the Saturday night.
City of London. Early hours. Not been that way in a while - last time I did my battery blew up.

I love night riding in winter... Always seems a bit of a waste in summer but clear dry cold nights and open roads are a great combination. Occasionally I just fail to arrive home. And frankly it wouldn't be a good idea to phone home at 3am and say "I'll be a bit late". "Oh, are you ****ed? Thought you took the bike" "I did, I'm in inverness"

I love riding at night (after midnight) in London, it's less busy... unless you hit a road with work in progress ... last time 3am Marylebone Road and it was packed:-? but hey, night filtering is also great :p. Love to go through roads where you see buildings/monuments all lit up (also makes the bike shine haha). I sometimes use this time to get to know new roads. It's good fun.
Sometimes when I need to think I go for night rides down to the beach... its really rather nice on the moon lit nights.
