Crazy to want one?

Anyone here had one or at least had a go in one?

They're so quirky and weird, I'd really like one as a commute tool. :)
(I don't care about image stuff, so leave out the invalid carriage comments :p).

All that glass - motorcycling's equivalent of a hearse.

They are the worst Commuting tool in the world. They constatly get stuck between things and can not filter and the riders are complete knobs!

other than that, knock yourself out :)

The C1 Owners Club lobbied Parliament for the right to not have to wear a lid.

Should have been allowed - would have gotten more of them off the road permanently.

Hmmm.....I wouldn't like to be in a C1, sliding down the road towards a truck, trapped because it has a "roof" (and I heard seatbelts once? Is it true?)...

It must be true what they say "You live by the C1, you die by the C1"... ;)

The seatbelts were wone of the nupties arguments about why they didnt need lids.....

May, 2004: despite initial optimism, the High Court has sided with the police in the prosecution of Peter Parker, despite an initial acquital by magistrates. It now looks like riders of the C1, the only motorcycle specifically designed to be ridden without protective clothing, will be required be wear a crash helment for the forseeable future. Oh well.

For more on the wonder that is the C1 see here (http://www.kevinboone.com/mc-c1.html).

Ok, everyone I have ever seen riding a BMW C1, has looked like the sort of snobbish twit that everyone avoids at a party so they don't get bored by their stock portfolio...

However, BMW tried to open discussions with the Department of Transport about applying for helmet exemption for the BMW C1, with very good reason. You have a protective cage and a seatbelt, making it a very different proposition to a normal bike. In data collected, not just from scientific tests, but comparisons of accidents in other countries where this exemption has been granted, the people wearing helmets suffered greater neck trauma than those without due to the extra mass and inertia. Because it's nearly impossible for a person's head to hit a car in a C1 provided they're belted up, the main reason for wearing it is removed. Faced with this argument, the DoT wrote back to BMW pointing out that deaths in motorcyling had been reduced since the introduction of helmets and they saw no reason to change it. Or even listen to an argument for a specific case.
Wonderful. Way to think outside the box and make the best assessment for people's safety.

If I was to ride one it'd be wearing the lightest open face lid I could for safety, and preferably some sort of mask that meant no one recognised me.

My sister test-rode one. Found it very top-heavy......and rode it into a bush.

Personally, I laugh at them, and their owners. I think they are crap vehicles.
