We got Berbatov.

Signing of the season - Julian Gray to Fulham, what a player.

Robinho a shocking but useful signing, City will have the shortest attack in the premiership.

im going to rant now so feel free to switch off...

£32m? is that what citeh paid for him? disgusting pathetic and outrageous. i've been a football fan all my life, first watch my team in 1978, a cracking 0-0 draw against everton....but the last few years, and maybe its sour grapes since my team were relegated and out of the limelight, but i can't honestly say if thats the case or not cos i know no different, football is going from bad to worse. the money is obscene. these big clubs are ruining little clubs. bournemouth had to start this season off on -17 points. thats them relegated to the conference effectively. thats the club gone bust effectively. so the fans suffer. the big clubs pay stupid wages, so the stupid footballer demands more and down the line it goes...

i now dislike football intensely. never thought i'd say that. actually thats not true. i dislike the premiership intenesly. overpaid. simple as. these people have come into city and said heres £500m am i right? tell me thats good for the game and i'll laugh at you.

i know lots of you feel the same, its taken me long enough to join the gang. but im on board now!

now if you want to watch a real team game full of talented individuals watch the ryder cup.

Still, one in the eye for Chelski though :-)

Yup - playing for country (okay....Europe!) for no payment and how hard did they fight to get into the team? Go Europe!!

Compare that to the shambles that will take to the field against Andorra on Saturday. No Woodgate, King, Ashley Young, St Michael of Newcastle or (dare I say it) Peter Crouch (who's never let England down)......... picked Upson and Lescott instead of Woodgate? And then keeps John Terry as Captain meaning that no other central defender has a chance to win a place (Rio is head and shoulders better than the rest so will always be #1 pick). Bah!!

That's my footie rant over.

Keith not so much the fee paid, but, Robinho(a world class footballer at 24 years of age) going to a not so top Premiership side I think may be good for the game, it gives city a good chance at top flight football, yes I know it takes a lot more than one player, but I seriously rate him.

Suppose on the other hand it shows that teams need to be bought out by billionaires to play top flight football.

The money in it is ridicolous for player, it would take me 10 years of hard work to earn Cristiano Ronaldos wage which he runs around for a few hours a week for. Agh well I'm only jealous.

No Dean Ashton again!

Very fair point. In my view he would do well with Rooney in a "Sherringham/Shearer" kind of way.

Surprised that one of the bigger teams didn't pursue an enquiry for him.

Biggest hit for the England team is Jimmy Bullard! Another deserved player for a chance.

The main problem these days is that football is now a business, not a game. Now, if £32 M is what it costs to 'acquire an asset' (sign a player - because that's what they to the owners) then the clubs are going to pay it. And the wages. And the bonuses etc etc etc. I don't agree with it but from a business perspective, it makes sense.

And sadly, no-one is ever going to reverse the trend.

i think to the contrary. in order for any team to compete they have to spend tens of millions upon tens of millions, hundreds of millions in all honesty. how's that good for the game? rich get richer, poor get kicked in the nuts.

gives city a good chance at top flight football? is that what they have to spend to be top 10? thats madness.

i've no idea what this robinho is like, never seen him play. but £32m?! and on what, £120k a week no doubt...

currently theres only 4 spaces for champions league. how long before england demand of uefa they get an extra place "cos man city spent £100m buying that honour"? before long there will be a breakaway league where the top clubs in europe only play each other all season. man utd would rather entertain barca, juve, madrid than have midlesborough or fulham turning up each week....

Keith, I disagree. Football is a business and always has been. Teams in the 60's and 70's werent playing at a loss, they were al making money!! and this continues to this day. The differrence today is that we have two business models: 1 = Man U who are a business to make money from world wide fan base, 2 = Chelsea (now Man C) Billionaire owner who can soak up losses without worrying to buy glory and build a fan base.

model 2 is rare so model 1 i.e Man U, Arsenal, Villa, Liverpool, depsite having rich owners I grant you, run on this model. They also know that Footy fans want their team to win every week and are as thick as pig Sh*t when it comes to parting with their money.

IF you think about it its a brilliant Business model as the Fans (customers) support an ethereal ideal that is "the club" who owns it is immaterial to them in terms of spending on it and there is no competition as such. Can you imagine a Liverpool fan saying he dislikes the way Liverpool are run and will therefore be following Everton from now on.

This wash of money falls squarely at our door as customers. While we buy sky/Setenta, continue to buy merchandise and go through the turnstiles Despite the apparent rip off and high prices, why should they change.

My last point is that the premiership is a global brand. England is already milked as much as they can and while ticket prices go up here and there, the clubs main aim is to secure merchandising and braodcast rights abroad. They can only do this if they have a high profile (how many Hull City shirts do you see in the far east!!). So spending £500m over next 3years to secure £1bn in world wide customer base seems good business to me.

Dont get me wrong I dont like it and as a footy fan of one of the lower league clubs (forest) I know especially that the times when Cloughie took a relatively unknown team to the top of league are well and trully over.

But give all that I have said, if you told me that a bilionaire was intersted in Forest and taking them back to the big time my head would say no but I know what my heart would be saying.............See i'm as thick as pig sh*t :D

£32million for a footballer, you could buy a hospital wing for that..........

Due to me watching La Liga regularly I have possibly seen a lot more of Robinho than most. He is for sure a very talented player. To get the most from him he neds to be played in a more infield role than as a winger. He might at first seem a little light weight for the Premier League but City fans could very well have a new cult hero.

The price tag is a sad reflection of the ridiculous fees that clubs will cough up these days. He is more of a 15 million sterling player and not at all in the same price range as Cristiano Ronaldo who, despite theatrics,is the outstanding player at the moment and more complete than someone like Messi who has a left foot only, cannot head a ball but does have a frightening turn of pace. Love him or hate him Ronaldo is the real deal and you should all enjoy his final season in England.

this is probably my whole point. it will never happen again. and maybe im being all dewy eyed and nostaligic and unreasonable but i'd LOVE to see that happen again! doesnt it make you sad that football has changed in such a vile fashion?

maybe this is why the championship is the 4th highest followed league in the world (after prem, serie a, and bundesliga), there are 5 or 6 teams in with a chance of winning the league each season.

altho thats in danger of being reduced to a mockery with the 5,000 billion pound parachute payments relegated premier teams get...

And with a contract until 2012, it's going to take a hefty wad to prise him from Old Trafford.

Keith...In reality there are maybe only max 6 clubs in any league anywhere in the world who would be considered as serious title contenders.Refreshingly, here in Spain Atletico Madrid could be back in amongst those this season along with the humble yet so talented Villareal who finished runners up last season.

Jabba,in truth Ronaldo would gain nothing by moving to Madrid apart from perhaps playing alongside world established names. The behind the scenes madness at Real and Barca are best avoided and the press here are absolutely ruthless.

However his new contract is purely business which ensures he benefits by staying and United as well as the player will do very nicely thankyou when he does move on.

Berbatov could prove to be the new Eric Cantona for United and if so,his fee will prove to be money very well spent.

We got Riera!!!

Can only say i wish DIC had taken over Liverpool rather than those yanks who know f*** all about football....erm sorry i mean soccer;).

All they see LFC as is a business venture, where as the whole arab family of DIC are LFC fans & would surely have ploughed their millions/billions into the club, then spending wise we would have been more than a match for Chelsea & now Man City.

Incedently good luck Man City as a Liverpool fan i truly look forward to Man Utd quickly becoming the 2nd best team in manchester:p.
