Unfortunately the silly moo clicked on the link to the .exe file :roll:
Can anyone tell me if we've been infected or were we lucky ?
It looks like the .exe file is no longer on the site, but I don't have enough technical nous to tell if I'm being fobbed off. I'm running Windows XP, SP3 fully patched with AVG anti-virus and a hardware firewall

well since you are into potato land, then,,you have reached information and information tells you to update your antivirus and do a full virus check on your pc.

but if windows or avg never complained .. i doubt it

well first sp3 is full of holes it needs a lot of work and patches mad for it so it works proply and also AVG is S**t it probly dosent know what a virus or spyware is if it come up and slapped it.

first id say get ride of sp3 and go back to sp2 seeing as that is fine delet AVG and get mcafee which is at the moment the best.

now iv had my little out burst .........

if you think it has infected then first off down load a free tool called ccleaner http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/download/49399be3aab5af19e5d88e8bc6498b71/

and run that if it finds somthing then gr8t if it dosent then also download spybot

if both em them come up with nothing then ur pc is fine and not infected. but make sure you use both programs. they are ranked best in to world :P

also once you have done that and isntalled mcafee then run mcafee virus scan.

I had the same thing, clicked on it and it changed my desktop and crashed the pc after 5 mins bringing up a blue screen..

I though I had a virus earlier.......an IE help window kept popping up between each click while browsing and it took me a few minutes to realise that my keyboard had jammed under the monitor causing the F1 key to stick down :takeabow:

So do you use computers a lot then? I just wondered, as it would appear that there are quite a few keys missing from, or not working on your keyboard. I would have thought you'd have noticed?

IMO, the condecending attitude needs some adjustment.

Back to the topic, even though it's been fixed now...

I posted on the .Org a while back about ecard.exe, and the fact that it's the YODI worm (Surely most IT experts would have some awareness of this worm - ahem).

Since this post was missed before, I'll re-iterate:

W32.HLLW.Yodi (Symantec name) is a mass mailling worm, with it's own built in SMTP procedures. Commonly it saves itself into %WINDIR%\System32 and searches almost all email clients (all that are MAPI compliant) for saved addresses, then sends itself to your contacts via it's own SMTP (with the ecard.exe email).

Last known status was that the virus is "wild" (ie still spreading), with a high level of distribution and low potential for damage.

There's no evidence that the YODI worm is influenced in any way by botnets.

(PS. Part of my job is to monitor a 10.x.x.x network spanning the entire globe for virus activity).

Sorry, I must only be able to interpret English because I am old, and use my brain more than my thumbs. I even remember when those telephone things were used to speak to people, rather than transmit inane twaddle to and from teenagers 24 hours a day.

You'll find your relentless use of txt spk will irritate quite a few of the more established members of the .Org. You'll also find that a little courtesy gains you more respect than your current self-important stance.

Further to this, I'd like to point all reading this thread (including Mods) to this announcement, http://forums.sv650.org/announcement.php?f=116&a=59.

That quite clearly asks all users not to use 'text-speak' and even goes as far as to define examples.
