What, not even rapist or murderers?!?! Bit harsh don't ya think?:(

Gave up a little while ago and still have the urge for a fag every now and then but it goes quickly. Besides, I don't like the taste anymore!

Congrats on giving up and hope it stays that way.

I wanted to stop for years and despite several attempts, I always failed miserably. Then I joined my local mountainbike forum and we all agreed on a meetup a few weeks down the line. We all did the usual talking-yourself-up stuff that happens before the actual event and when the big day arrived, I went to the meet and was met by what can only be described as a bunch of finely-tuned athletes, all thin as whippets and twice as fit. Back then I was smoking about 40 to 50 roll-ups per day - usually a packet of papers between waking and going to bed. 7 days a week.

Well, all my big-up talking came back to bite me in the as$ as they had to wait for me every mile or so. To say I was embarassed is to understate it by lightyears. I decided there and then to stop smoking and I've not had even a single puff since. That was February 2007 and I'm still going strong. I get the urge now and then, but it's so worth it. Now, I'm by no means first in the pack, but at least I keep up with the whippets easily.

When I think of it, I'm very annoyed with myself for not quitting sooner. I started smoking at age 13 and stopped at age 38. What a waste of everything.

An encouragement to other people, I hope:)

Well done on quitting. You don't see that many tobacco company reps on the cancer ward, do you. Shows how completely cynical these people are. They put vast profits before people's health and always manage to worm out of liability.

Well done.

I quit three years ago after smoking for almost 25 years.

Even now though I stll sometimes get an urge, but the whole concept seems completely alien to me now....

It gets easier in time, I can now have a beer and not think about smoking at all and that was the most difficult bit.

Now I have a small chuckle to myself when I see people huddled outside a pub tabbing away....

I have stopped 2 days ago and am a nervous wreck at the moment. After smoking for over 30 odd years and I was on 40 to 60 a day.It is not that easy. I have no clue if I can keep it up. But congratulations to all that have made it.

I stopped the day I bought the SV (and passed my test), I thought smoking money would be better spent elsewhere. That was over 5 years ago. Bad news is I started smoking again 2 months ago for no particular reason other than I've always felt like a smoker who just was not smoking rather than a non-smoker!

Oh well, I'm quitting this weekend for sure

Stick with it scuba1, it gets a lot easier and you grow to dislike the taste, at this point it makes almost no sense to smoke, even if you feel the urge!

I started smoking when I was 12 to look big & hard. Tried to give up quite a few times, but never succeeded.
I was thinking about giving up to keep hold of a lady who didn't like the smell of cigarette smoke & then had my accident.
2 weeks in hospital did the trick :)
8 months down the line & I still haven't had a cigarette, but didn't keep the girl :(
My house is now smoke free, but there are still times when I could murder a cigarette.
