View Full Version : S K3 Fender Extender: How do I attach without drilling holes?

As the title suggests, Pyramid have sent me a pointy extender, and I've heard it can be attached without needing to drill holes and using the ugly self-tappers. Do I use some sort of ultrastrong adhesive? Will those sticky pads supplied not do the job? Guess not or we wouldn't need the screws! What's the secret to securing it firmly so it doesn't vibrate loose, but without drilling nasty holes? Help out the Tallguy, oh mighty and worshipful .org!

I pop-riveted mine then got the whole thing painted to match up.
But if you're bothered about seeing the screws, what about getting it plastic welded?

Glue it

Go to B & Q or somewere and get some waterproof adhesive, I used a Product called "Evostick Wet Grab" on mine, worked a treat. The other product that seems get mentioned is something called "Sikaflex" its used on boats so its waterproof as well.

Thanks guys, any info on super tough glues much appreciated. Marine adhesive would make sense, as no doubt it'll be designed to be waterproof and vibration resistant. Why don't Pyramid supply a tiny pot of this in the package? Surely noone actually thinks the drill and screw idea looks smart? I'd pay an extra two or three pounds for the glue option. Maybe I should write to Pyramid...

Silicone sealant also seems to be a good option: http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=63298&page=3#22

Half a tube of Araldite did the job on mine.

Looks like THIS (http://marinestore.co.uk/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_code=MD170139X&Category_code=sikaflex-sika)is the stuff I should be using!

I know someone with boat expertise, will see if he's got any I can "borrow"...

I glued a Pyramid fender extender to my K3 with this: http://www.tec7.com/index.php?st=products&prodkey=tec7&taal=en

Very strong product, still keeps with no problems, no holes, no nothing :)

sudaflex made by Soudal will work well i think its the same as sikaflex might actually just have a new name or summit it comes in a metal tube the same as the plastic silicone tubes dont think its too expensive and it will keep for ages for any jobs in the future, its sets like hard rubber but it'll probs need left overnight to cure properly

Thanks guys, have chatted with a friend in the marine industry, he'll pick me some Sikaflex 291 up and I'll report back.

By the way, how much would you expect to pay to get the fender extender painted to match the bodywork (Sonic Silver)?

For the size of it and how visible it will be, I'd do it yourself.

Your bike will become much faster when you get it painted to match the Pyramid's colour :)

I used sikaflex 291 to stick my fender extender on about 4 years ago and its still stuck fast, just hold it on with clothes pegs overnight while the sikaflex cures.

Yep, that's exactly what I did with the TEC7, now holding for 5 years

I used Araldite on my K5, and to be absolutely sure I drilled it and fitted the supplied screws as well and tbh if you locate them properly you can't really see them unless you're looking for them , and it's still on a year later. I also had it painted the same colour as the rest of the bike before I fitted it, looks a treat

Silly I know...but I still don't know what a fender extender is. Has anyone got a pic?

Search on this forum is a bit bugged for me, didn't see anything! :(

Being a total numpty about painting, what's the easiest and best way to do it? Bit of an open ended question, i suppose...!

It is designed to keep crap off of the front of your bike, more importantly on the SV's it helps keep water away from the front spark plug.

I found the paint code on the interwebby, luckily i work in the motor trade so i got one of those mobile dings/dents guys who do small local repairs to mix up the paint and spray it for me, charged me about 15 quid if i remember. gave me a little pot of spare paint too afterwards!
