View Full Version : Very Sad Day
After discussing things for a few days, we have finally come to the conclusion that the SV will have to go:(
I'm heartbroken, as I love that bike, but I understand that we can't afford to keep it.
As it is relatively worthless as a running bike, we will be breaking it and everything will be sold, including all our trick bits. These will be listed in for sale once we've sorted ourselves out, but in the meantime if there is anything anyone is interested in, please pm me for a price. We may also pm those who have expressed an interest in certain things previously.
The stubby is not for sale though. No-one else is having OUR sound:p

why worthless as a runner, surely its not that ill?

There is nothing wrong with the engine, it's just the carbs. But seeing what curvy's of similar mileage go for, it makes more sense to break it Dizz.

Good, it sounded carp anyway
Joking hun. Though if you're out of things to polish, you can always come round and polish mine ;)
So you're breaking it completely and not returning it to standard trim?
So you're breaking it completely and not returning it to standard trim?
Breaking completely, yes. Reckon it's worth 1400 max as a standard bike, feel it's worth more than that as bits.
Easily ;) Good luck with the sale of parts. If you two want a hand stripping it down give me a bell and I'll happily come round, drink your tea and tell Pete what he's doing wrong ;) :p

new set o carbs 40 quid ?? just sounds a bit drastic to break the whole thing for just carbs:confused:

That'll be everything, then!:D

But still worth far more as bits Dizz. Besides, I don't want someone buying and then crashing MY baby. At least as bits it'll still be out there, somewhere:p
I await Pete's reply:
"I don't need you there to tell me what I'm doing wrong, I've already got Lissa!"
It's just a shame you've gone to the expense of getting the JHS cams and not gotten the use out of them :(
I feel for you Lissa, that bikes been a big part of your lives. Why not keep a momento, I suggest those purple wheels, turn them into a rocking chair or something :D

Lissa, just an option but there may be people on here that would buy the whole bike along with the extras (in the long run they will probably buy them any way).
Stick a thread up in the 'for sale' section for a while before you start breaking, it is a well maintained and loved bike.

Reading this has bought a small tear to my eyes.
Bikedolf was the first SV me and Lily met from the forum and I will forever remember the sound of following you blindly into Wales with no clue as to where we were going.
It was and still is one of the best days biking I have had with you guys.
Wish there was a part I could move over to my pointy so I could have a personal memento of the stunning machine.

Are you sure you'll get more for the parts than you would selling it whole? I broke my 1st SV and sold it as parts thinking I would get more than if i sold it as a project (it was covered in corrosion, needed a new wiring loom and CDI) the truth is I got much much less than if i had sold it complete. Plus I ended up with loads of bits and pieces that I just couldn't sell, 3 years later i've still got bits that I couldn't shift!

First, real sorry to hear this Lissa & Pete, but at least you have something better to enjoy ;) Whenever I am forced to only ride my ZX7R for a while i miss my SV, but I guess your Duc is closer to the SV.
But more than £1400 as parts =; sorry but I can't add up to that figure in my head. Would you consider posting a full price list so that you can benefit from some people's opinion on here as to what you will get.
And "crashing MY baby" - surely splitting you will feel just the same & that's you doing it. :smt102
If uhh...if this does get broken, can I have dibs on the front right hand fairing panel so long as it's in good nick?
Very sad to hear its come to this Lissa but I fully understand why - have to agree with a comment above though - wouldnt it be better to sell all the fancy bits and put it back to standard and then sell it? It wouldnt be quite the same bike to let go then?

At the risk of soundling like a vulture..... Any chance of sticking a first dibs on those shiney side panels you've got? I've got a spare set of the standard ones I could bung your way if you need them as replacements (FOC, obviously)?
Sad you're having to sell the bike though, I know I'll be GUTTED the day I'm resigned to selling mine.

To be fair to Lissa Northy it was my decision to break the Sv. It will hardly be used, if at all, now. We've already sorned it. First time ever!
I truly loved having the Sv and doing things to it and with it but it's fair to say I never gelled with this Curvy as I did my old one. Even though we've thrown shed loads of dosh at it, maybe not always wisely, but it's never been a complete bike. Shows how good the Sv's are though, that it takes a bike costing nearly 3 times as much money originally to better it.
Also there is more of Lissa than me in the Sv. She has toiled, polished and spilt blood on it. Me? I just got on and rode it.
The Duke is a better bike in many ways and undeniably better quality, but it's not as easy for me to ride. I've always said I've got an Sv650 brain. Anything quicker and I grind to a halt. So it looks like I'm gonna become a straight line teeter around corners sorta guy now.:(
As for any stuff. What rear brake you got, cos I still got that Bandit 4 rear caliper hanger.

Personally I'd rather see the bike sold as a whole, and then watch somebody else ride it away knowing they were going to have as much fun on it as I did.
I toyed with the idea of breaking my SV for parts and then decided I couldnt be ars*d. The chap that bought mine seemed really pleased with it and I was glad it had gone to a new home where it was going to get used.
Difficult decision I bet, one I had a feeling you were going to make though.

Well you spent time with us at Scotland and I suppose we knew then it was curtains for the Sv. Trouble with selling a bike like that is that peeps are always coming back and asking questions and needing help. Plus we'd hate to see it deteriorate. It has been pampered.

I've no doubt we could be stuck with a lorra bits, but as long as we have a bit more space in the front room. Plus putting up with all those tyre-kickers and time wasters. Also a matter of security too.

Bikes are just collections of metal, plastic and rubber. Does anyone here get sentimental about their fridge or steam iron...I thought not.
If the money is right I'll break any bike I am thinking of selling, even a classic immaculate 1978 2 owner RD250D that had only 13000 miles on the clock - I'd owned it for 13 years and did 10,000 of those miles myself. In one bit the bike was worth maybe a grand at the very most, after I'd broken it I realised 1950 quid from it in parts. Not bad from a bike that cost me 400 quid.
Can I have the Rudolf outfit for mine?

I would seriously hunt them down and kneecap them:D
If you want another opinion telling you not to break the bike - (probably not) - I would sell any aftermarket parts of reasonable value - ie seat/shock should get you about £500, Then get it working its unlikely to go for less than £1000 as a running bike. Selling fiddly oily used bits is going to take months and unlikely to be much fun. Probably lucky to make more than £600 breaking a standard bike, unless you want to advertise individual components/bolts etc as the parts on an SV are pretty cheap new and I imagine lots have no second hand value - frame etc.
I think I might cry

IMO the door swings both ways on this one! I sold my pristine 11 month old, 06 R6 about a year ago before leaving the UK. Not only did I get peanuts for it but when the guy collected it, he show me a pic of his old R6. He had spent around $2k or something silly on a paint job that changed colour in the sun, swapped every part possible coloured anodised bits and polished the wheels to a nice mirror finish! Nice. The rub was when he informed me that he was going to do the same to my bike (now) ex-bike  :(

I think you might be wrong there. Breaking a good used SV in standard condition will probably make you at least one and a half times what it will fetch as a whole. Just about everything will sell, even the frame if it has a log book.
I break good bikes when I think it's worth it, and always make money from them. Ogden recently broke his ZX7R after crashing it quite heavily, and still made more out of the parts that were useable than he originally paid for it .

I can't see you making >1400 i bits ... I'd love to know where you think you can make that, let alone enough to warrant the hassle/time stripping and selling/posting all the bits.
Surely things like the wheels, forks and engine, oh and the bodywork too - they will shift reasonably quickly, but then you will be left with a pile of bits with every low demand.
I'd love to see the sums!! ... if you have the time to strip a bike and post all the bits out ... then you have the time to get another job to be able to make the money (and more) ;)

I haven't seen the other thread .... but £2.6k in bits ... that is optimistic ... if it has trick bits on it, take them off and sell them ... put it back to stock, never sell a bike with trick bits on it, you will never get the increase in value from it ...
Any the then stock bike isn't going to fetch SIGNIFICANTLY (you have to counter the hassle and time factors, so it has to be significant) more than £1400 in bits surely?

Thank you for the compliment Matt .
TBH that's part of the problem, we have to be ever so careful not to misrepresent bits because of peeps expectations. Like that crack on the fairing lower. It's been there for 6+ years. I bet hardly anyone has noticed it, even with the mini indys fitted and I've totally forgotten about it but a purchaser would blow his top if he received it unwarned. Rightly so. So we have to try and highlight every little nick and stone chip, which is a bit unreasonable in a way as the bike is over 7 years old. People just see the bike as a whole and don't realise it's got flaws like any other.
Hope that makes sense.

There you go, honesty. At least you know what your getting, and can factor in any repairs or just think "well, sod it, i can live with a crack"
