Hi all,

I am looking at upgrading my sv to a cbr and I have seen this bike in a dealer. I have calculated that upgrades for the sv are not worth it and the residual value/installation costs make it more worthwhile buying a SS600.

http://www.pghmotorcycles.com/usedmake.php?Make=Honda

91 miles. £5300 but the dealer said he could go down to £5150. Tyres not scrubbed in but has been sitting in a garage for nealy 2 years. Apparantly the owner bought the bike new and either didn't enjoy it or have the time.

Is there any harm leaving a bike for a few years?

Opinions please.

Thanks

not a bad deal......... i would give it a service, and it may need a battery

(try and get the shop to do the above)

As what Hovie said, make sure that the dealer takes the oil out and sorts battery. Plus, ensure that they include the running in service (not sure what it is on a Honda) as they would have given that to the original owner but never done it.

i would want it for less than 5k though

The salesman said it will include a service before it leaves and 3 months warranty.

However, it is out of Honda warranty. What do you think would be reasonable for it?

bikes are also time sensitive for a service, try and find out if any major parts need inspecting or replacing as per the 1 or 2 year service. I seriously doubt you will come accross anything but the last thing you want is to find that the service schedule requires the fuel lines to be replaced after 2 years and have one split on you...use it as a bargaining tool as if it hasnt evne had one service yet.... Its missed two.

Food for thought.

nothing is selling really at the moment.. go in low.. 4700 and see what he says.. no offence in saying no..

more importantly what are YOU happy to pay for it, if you ride it off the forcourt having paid 5150 will you feel done, or pleased with yourself?

Original Price £7,299
Independent Dealer £4,835
Private Good £4,445
Private Poor £3,200
Part Exchange £3,590

i know its very low milage (and therefore should be in mint/showroom cond)

but i would like a bit of change out of 5k or a few extras chucked in

(but im a tight ****)

I haven't even test ridden it yet. I will do that when I have some time off. I asked the salesman about credit crunch etc. He said it is only cars that are not selling at the moment, I have a feeling he is lying as bike prices have dropped a lot over the last few months.

I guess offering £4600 cash and bargaining may work. I am in no rush to buy but at the moment I think it maybe in the showroom for a little while (hopefully to my advantage.)

money does not talk... like it used to, they want you to get it with fianace.

wave 4½ grand in front of him....... and play on the fact how long they have had it

i think £4700-4800 would be a fair price?

Thanks for help Hovis,

I have posted the same thing on a cbr forum and was getting the same sort of replies. Offer much less because the 07 model is apparantly better than the 06. Also I can get a low milage one 2-3K for the same sort of money and apparantly mileage is not a problem on the cbr.

Its an OK price from a dealer IF it is an RR5/RR6, not just a 2006 registered bike, I'm sure those are RR3/RR4 colours though, check under the pillion seat it will tell you which RR it is. It could be a late registered RR3/RR4, in which case its a fairly bad price.

Mine is a late RR5/RR6 late registered in early 2007 on a 56plate then put on show in a showroom and never used so had 0 miles. I paid £5400 and it still had 1 year manafacturer warranty and the first 600m service was free.

I think you need to look into it abit more.

Aye, thats total plums. Its a great market if you are buying at the moment. All the mags are saying all these 0% offers around are a sure sign of manufacturers and dealers starting to panic. Going in well below the asking price is in your favour, they wont be able to resist cold hard cash.

To be fair the guy I know who owns a few bike dealerships has said business is pretty good at the moment as people are buying bikes to beat traffic and use less fuel.......apparently its harder to shift big (1000) second hand sports bikes right now though.

Unless of course you are after a CB1000R like i'm gonna look at on Sat - i cant get anyone to budge on price for one of those! But every mag i've seen this month is saying buy, buy buy.

I am getting restless as well. I love the Hairnet, (and may even keep it for some fun around town etc), but fancy either Blade (Always had since I was a kid) And you can get 05-06 1000RR for 5k with low mileage. However I saw Superduke the other day with Acrapovic cans. OMG ... it sounds mint! If a devil rode a bike it would sound like the Duke! Same sort of money (well tad bit more) but I would love it. Plus my licence could be safer with a naked bike? I may wait until Xmas than come in with a wand of cash to do a deal.

It is a june/july 2006 model RR6 on an 06 plate I was told. It has USD forks too. You had a good deal since you still had the honda warranty.

Ahh cool USD fork its defo the newer model, RR3/RR4's had no midrange the RR5/RR6 was a big improvement.

I snapped the deal up as soon as I saw it for mine lol.

ricky t - test drove one exactly the same as that with 1k miles on it yesterday and it almost ripped my arms off post 11k revs. I was on a dealer for £4500 and he was going to service it and replace the battery.

Thanks for letting me know. Are you thinking of getting a CBR next also? £4500 seems pretty good.

I cannot test ride one until October as the shops insurance will only let 21 year olds test ride. I am 20 but I have been riding for 2.5 years.

I am actually going to be a miser and buy this bike during the winter and at the moment with the credit crunch et al, I may get a better deal still. The Sv is still good but I cannot jusify spending money on suspension upgrades that I will not see back.

A new 08 one is about £7500 I believe. A 2nd hand one - no idea.

It can only be about 6-6.5k for a 2nd hand 08 one then? .. being 08, it is not like it would have done many miles ;)

Its a 2-3 year old bike whatever the mileage and you should pay accordingly.OK so its a CBR but look at what dealers are clearing brand new unsold Kawyamsuz SS600s for and how much they will be come credit crunch winter.I wouldnt be sucked in by the 91 miles thing.I bet the tyres are flatspotted, the battery is fubared, the chain is dry and it never got that vital first service or run in properly.Best put in a museum.

I have found an 07 new shape CBR-rr with 5800 miles on it for £4500, but as I'm still making my mind up due to recent insurance pay-out. I'm not telling you where.

Always liked GSXR's but felt so 'at home' on the CBR-rr, I am not sure which.....

There are loads on ebay and they're not really selling because when things get tough, toys like bikes are the first thing to go. Good for me as I use mine as transport...

There is actually too much choice about at the moment, just as I think I'm getting close something better comes along, which basically means I am stuck on my cycle.

I wish I had my SV..........I could always buy another, but I liked mine.

It is a buyers market.

At the moment some decent bikes 1000cc are going for low amounts. On my local forum there was someone selling a K7 GSXR 1000 for £6k with about 4000miles on it. I would be interested but with only 3 years no claims and a twitchy right hand, I couldn't justify it.
