You want to ride full throttle everywhere!!!

as some of you will know i was rejetting this weekend...

i defoamed the tank yesterday..no probs...

and today i swapped the standard 137.5 mikuni jets for 155 mikikuni jets and fitted my BMC RS filter...i love it...

sounds lovely...feels faster...sounds lovely...pulls better...and sounds lovely!!

Id like to say a big thankyou to the .org...and the special thanks to the replies to my initial thread...i would not have had the confidence to even consider doing this myself let alone actually do it with success had i not have had the experienced words of others on here....

To make a slightly educated guess at your main jet size... 155.

yea yea yea!!!...gotta be honest i went with these first based on what you suggested and boo86 saying he may be a bit lean on 152.5's...

i would have been very upset if i had to do it all again to fit a different size...but im happy..

yep all worth it for the sound...

oh yea forgot to say i do have some tank raisers (hard rubber tap washers) but need to drill the holes bigger....and had enough spannering for one day...yes earplugs are in order!!

Did you go for the RS (fully open) or the normal one? I'd like to fit one to mine, but too tight to get a dyno run to get the jetting correct ... so if I have ballpark jets, I'll diy 8)

What 'zorst you got on BTW? Full system or just a can?

yorkie_chris

Mine's micron system, cut down can, BMC race RS, tank raisers, defoamed ... 165's, can't remember what needle setting.

I believe dappa has OEM system and a can

yes its the RS..was some confusion in the beggining (as was 2nd hand) but now confirmed its an RS...

bike has standard pipes with just a viper end can and everything else standard...(for now)...

im hoping to get it on a dyno at the end of the month out of curiousity to see whats going on....unfortunaltly wont have a "before" but at least will know if i should re-shim / change pilots or a/f mix etc...

Take it to 6krpm in 3rd ish, whack the throttle open ... hesitation/spluttering there says mains are too small.

Cool, I'll wait until you have done that then!! :D

What did you do with the needles? i.e. what setting are they on (counting up from the bottom)

no hesitation on mine...got a print out thing on how too test..seems good!!

the only thing ive changed are the main jets

needles are as they were...

im not sayin its perfect as im sure its not but its definatly an improvement and sounds good too....once ive put it on a dyno i should be able to decypher where any problems lye and go from there

I'll let you find out and spend all the money!! ... mine would be for my track bike, so its gotta be pretty close else it's gonna get expensive real quick, so happy to wait until you have had a dyno! ;)

So..... 155 mikunis ??

Dappa D
15-09-08, 09:11 AM
yep thats what i went with, YC had taken an educated guess at 155's and you said you may be a little lean on 152.5's so i thought id start at 155's.....

i liked how it felt after....so kept it...the thought of doing all that again and putting in a different size after ...well....couldnt be arsed with that on the same day...so quite possible that 152.5's or maybe something higher than the 155's may perform a little better as ive not compared them....i am however hoping (cash dependent) to get a dyno graph done at end of month and see how its all looking....

was quite lucky with the float chamber screws...all ok aprt from 1...with rounded slightly...so i sprayed wd40 on it..gave a gentle tap with a hammer and used a chisel to make a flat gap and got it out that way....

your info u sent me was ace btw..thanks!!!

hammer and chisel on carbs ! I'll have to remember that one lol.

Good stuff, your the man. I've got some 160s for mine I'm dying to see if they're any better.
We should organise a dyno day for .org members. We could book it for the full day and get a good price !!http://forums.sv650.org/images/icons/icon7.gif

AlsoI found some brass mesh when I was clearing out my shed the weekend. I think I'll make my self a bmc SR or whatever they're called. the ones with the mesh bottoms. =P~=P~ Hubba Hubba !!!!

just out of curiosity chaps whats defoaming?

Dappa D
15-09-08, 11:44 AM
when you lift the tank up...theres a layer of sound deadening foam under the tank which is quite thick...its just getting rid of that mate

Removing the piece of foam which is glued to the underside of the petrol tank above the airfilter, it is for drive by noise laws.

Kills induction noise and reduces air flow to no gain.

when its in.....defoaming helps air flow and LERVERLY induction noise....

I like this idea... Maybe try and tie it in with the AR or something so that people are already gathering?

ive emailed a place called road and track in aylesbury (think this is what its called...they have a race team also...)

they do a dyno run for £20 if u email them for a code...so i did...and also asked how many they could fit in in a day (said pref a sat) and how much (if any) discount would be given if we could fill their day....

its 111 miles from me but the ride would be good if others fancied it...only emailed them 20 mins ago so not heard back yet....will post when i know anything and see if any numbers can make it to the place /interested etc!

Dappa D
15-09-08, 01:54 PM
my bad...duh,....the £20 was just for a POWER run not a full diagnostic....heres the email i just got back,,,,

"Hi Daniel.

No problem re the dyno run.

Best bet would be to ring us at work to arrange a time.
If we're in the dyno room, just leave a message and I'll call back on the
number you've given.

We're shut on Mondays but you can still leave a message or email.

If there are enough of you I can do a day on a Saturday and sort a price out
so you pay less - any idea how many?

Also, it depends on if you just want power runs as the £20 offer is
literally just that.

I would normally suggest having a full diagnostic (normally £47 but again
I'll sort something out if there are enough of you), which takes longer but
gives lots of info on how the bike is running (especially fueling) and what
gains can be had.

So if you could find out how many mates would come over and if they just
want power or full runs, it would be helpful.
I can then work out some times and costs.

If there are a lot of you and it'll take most or all of the day, a deposit
would be appreciated as Saturday is a very busy day usually - hope that's
ok.

If you need any more info, just let me know.

Cheers!
Chris "

so not really worth it.......£30 is the best ive found actually in bristol so far....my head says take it too JHS as there on my doorstep but my wallet says otherwise!!

PC Performance bikes in Ashington did me 2 hours for £60 but he's pretty clueless. Told me to change my needle height to sort out my full throttle fueling. In the end I just told him to work the dyno and I sorted the bike my self. In the end it was still pretty ****. Been going off 'feel' since then lol.

10mm will do something, 15mm is what I have. Bear in mind everything affects jetting.
