from the front, at anything over 30mph, and only on deep potholes and the like,
When my SV was serviced apparently my headraces  were loose? I have no idea what or indeed where they are, but alot of vibrations in the bike went after they were tighened up and the clunk when going over bumps in the road and speeds bumps also dissapeared.

Mine seems to do this as well.
It also knocks if I open throttle then shut off straight away (from the front, feels like forks but I am a noob so Im just guessing). I can feel the vibration ofr the knock through the foot pegs.
Is this normal?
Common thought is it's to do with the damper rod fork action. The problem is it's easy to say "they all do that" when in some cases it is the head races or brakes. If the clunk is new, investigate it, if the bike is brand new, or has been properly services and does it then it's probably the fork action. Bouncing the front end of the bike should not provide a clunking feel or sound, if it does check it out.
Having rebuilt my SV the head races are greased and properly tightened, the brakes have been rebuilt, the forks have fresh oil and the correct air-gap. I get a knocking / clack type noise over very harsh pot holes at speed. This is the normal noise :)

I think it will be your Headraces (Steering Bearings?) Calipers or it could just be your front fender knocking against your forks which mine does. Very loud plastic sounding klunk if you get me :D. Ride over a few more pot holes see if you can figure out where it comes from I only know mine is the mudguard because I have no forward back movment in my steering bearings

In fairness that means you know the headraces aren't loose, rather than that you know it's the mudguard. But it may be that.

There's lots of different things blamed for this, all I acn say is don't go and tighten or loosen anything just on the off chance ;) Bikes make noise, it's not neccesarily a problem at all.
