View Full Version : start you b@stard!
Greetings all,
New member of the SV fan club, having recently passed my test and purchasing an SV650k2. Having a few problems though when starting - it does start however for the first minute of so, it ticks over at less than 1000rpm and any twist of the throttle results in it cutting out... after a while its fine and ticks over nearer 1,500rpm. Any ideas on what might be causing this and what I can do to rectify? Also, I think it is running a bit 'lumpy' however never having owned an SV... or indeed any bike... before, not sure if this is just a character trait of the bike?
Thanks all
Cheese
Are you using the choke when starting it?
Oh aye - welcome to the forum too. Most important question is - what colour is it?

Sounds like the chokes might not be working properly. A common problem unfortunately, but it's hard to make a guess really. Whereabouts do you live Cheese?
Choke is out (if that means none applied?!), and when you try to apply any at all, it also cuts out.
My baby is silver in colour... which I think looks pretty sweet! And I'm based near Ipswich, Suffolk.

Go to this thread and click on the first of the youtube clips.
Your bike may start like this. That's pretty normal for a Curvy.

Pull the choke lever toward you, then start the bike, fade it out as the bike warms up a little (I hold mine ~ 2,000 rpm) and after 30 seconds or so you should be able to shut it off completely, at this point You should be able to ride off gently, the motor will warm up and the idle will level out.
It's getting colder and a bit of choke will often be required to help the motor get going in the mornings now.

Oops, forgot about that. I've taken the clutch switch off. Much easier to start using only one hand.
Well spotted Dappa. :D
