Just been trying to find the information written down but I have been told the law will be changing soon with regards to number plates. Its going to be illegal for companies to supply illegal plates. I am not sure of the specific details or how this will effect the companies in question (unless anyone can enlighten us)...so get your plates quick if you intend to get them.
I do know that this is not specifically to cut down on the ability to get illegally sized plates but to stop criminals from easily cloning plates etc.

Just had an e-mail from a company i dealt with....
Limited time left to purchase your Showplates
You may have seen in the press that from 1st November 2008 it will become an offence to sell or manufacture registration plates that do not conform to the latest British Standards and design criteria laid down by the DVLA.
Consequently the ability to purchase Showplates displaying non-legal fonts/spacing/images/slogans etc will be outlawed.
As a result, My Showplates can only supply Showplates until 30th October 2008.
With this date looming and Christmas fast approaching we wanted to give you as much notice as possible to enable you to place your orders and avoid any disappointment

I'm sure they'll still be available mail order from Southern Ireland, where the law wont reach :D

Quicker to pop into Bevois Valley about 10 minutes from you and get one he makes them while you wait and will do whatever you want.Only takes cash though.
On the plod front I was pulled for a legal size legal font plate but off ebay no bs number or makers details etc got a warning and told to change it, as soon they will not be lenient at all plod also said it will get you 3 points as well as a fine.It will no longer be £30 and a trip to the mot station.I thought this had changed in April but what do I know?.

Recently got stopped and had a £30 fine for my troubles, some bull about ANPR cameras not being able to pick up the smaller letters on show plates. (Like I'm gonna believe a very expensive, sophisticated piece of technology can't read slightly smaller letters!!!)
my zorst will draw their attention from the plate lol

but thats a good thing :D
I've not had any problems with my plate yet.
Was at matlock on sunday parked with about 50 bikes in a row and it was glaringly obvious that it was tiny compared to others all parked in the row, still no bother even though police were walking up and down checking bikes.
They only person I saw getting a ticket was a guy who's rear tyre had wires showing.......and rightly so in my opinion.
Most sign makers will make you a plate up.
I dont believe it will ever be a points and fine job anyway, will always just be a £30 fine as its a vehicle defect that does not pose a serious risk. As soon as I get my first fine I will probably just get a normal plate though lol I'm tight like that.

bike plods seem to ignore the fact, seems to be the cage ones that kick up a fuss.
on a the A32 the only times i've even seen bikes tugged its by cage plods not biker plods

avoid west wales and be careful in brecon area with 'special' plates bike plod and cage plod have pulled my friend up recentley for having a plate with betty Boo on
But due to her obvious and large attributes she's had a warning and sent away ( with out an official rectifier too!)
Yes she is blonde rather attractive and flirty , don't think that'll work for most of us
Pah wales, dont go there anyway, would have to pass by some of the nicest roads in the uk to get there. ;)

It's the idiots who take the p!ss by having a matchbox sized plate who end up spoiling it for everybody else.

Wideboy I have had that response on a number of occasions, no offence to you but its that attitude that makes me laugh, people who say, its only a small plate/noisey exhaust etc, its not as if i am out robbing and murdering people.
At the end of the day an offence is an offence regardless, such as going 1mph over the speed limit. Everyone speeds but it is an offence, if you want a slightly smaller plate then that is your decision, if you get stopped and given a ticket then I expect you wont complain?
In relation to receiving tickets for illegal number plates, after 2 fines for illegal plates DVLA can and do withdraw a vehicles registration...
As i said Wideboy its not meant to offend, just an observation.

Fraser
