Anybody who is at uni may know of this; it's my third freshers' week this week. The traffic in canterbury was ridiculous, never seen it so busy there. Total gridlock.
I'm going to get ****ed as a fart tonight :D
Any freshers' week stories people care to share? I remember destroying my date's dress after the freshers' ball where I was apparantly dancing at a 45 degree angle in my tux... She looked better out of it anyway.

Huh, freshers week. I start at UCL on monday for my PhD. I didn't do much at freshers week when I was a real student (this time I'm actualy doing a legitimate job, research), so I doubt I'll do anything at all this time round!
Except maybe pop into Professor's office for free tea :D

You my friend, are sorely missing the point about Freshers week. Even for those with significant others, it's a damn fun time.
I finish work at 11pm, and I'm still going out for a while. :D

Just got back from dropping my Son for his first Freshers week at Kent University at Canterbury , I think I would rather not know what he's up to , wish I'd had the chance to go to Uni
Cheers Steve

Freshers week might be alright, but theres at elast 3 years of work ahead. Not to mention the debt that piles up.
I don't recommend uni, not unless you have a specific reason for getting that particular degree you are reading for

Not true, I've been to countless Freshers' weeks, but I was only a student for 4 months. :D
As for what is there to do? I could tell you, but Maria may read this, so it's better for you if I don't. Trust me.
For god's sake, it's all about getting laid...simple as that.
My middle daughter is at Lincoln studying Child Psych, I'm not really bothered what she gets up to, to be perfectly honest, as long as it's mainly legal. She's just a normal teenager doing normal teenager things.

I'm just going into my third year at Kent Uni; what's your son doing and where's he staying? The road all through canterbury yesterday was bloody packed, took the ****, I was only trying to get home from work and had to filter through about a mile and a half. Crazy. Was a great first night out though.
My son's studying English as he wants to be an English Teacher , he is in Elliot College if I remember well
Cheers Steve

Don't worry about being older than the new starters, although saying that I'll still be 20 when I graduate :D

me too, but I got there eventually at the grand age of 39.
Problem with the OU tho is you don't get a freshers' week! (or even an old gits' week, come to that)

2006 IIRC, my birthday's july 24th. It's quite nice being the youngest in the year now, because it means if I fail I won't be a million years old when I graduate; plus I want to save about 20k and do a bike tour of the world for a year or so. The plan is to hop from track to track throughout the world :D

My third fresher's too, just come back from a freebie-grabbing trip at the fresher's fair, that's my stationary supply sorted for the year
INcredible as it may seem - i studied (for want of a better word, ahem:rolleyes:) English at Kent, was in Darwin College ....did a great course about Conrad , much of which was comparing Joe to Dostoyevsky ...couldnt tell you a whole lot about it now tho... except i had the best tutor whos enthusiasm and personality made it the only course i really enjoyed...Keith Carabine i think his name was...
The worst course i did there was Film Studeis, all psychoanalysis of obsure films by Max Ophuls and others id never heard of. The films were shown at 2.30pm, so id go and have a lager at the student bar beforehand, and end up nodding off 20mins into the film, made writing essays about it later in the week difficult ! The Cobweb wasnt on video , prob still isnt !!:):)
Cant say i liked Canterbury much, did my last year commuting from London ! ;)

I love it here, it's fantastic. My sort of place though, I guess. My name is Conrad and occasionally I got to Darwin to drink. Small world!
Anyways, my freshers' week is going brilliantly, if I go out tonight (which I will), it will be my 7th night in a row. So far I've spent £250-300 in 6 nights and I just feel like I'm going to die constantly. I don't have to go to work for the rest of the week though, thank god!
