I have seen lots of threads on fitting a ZX10 shock to a curvey but does it fit straight in to a pointy,
do you use the ZX spring and oroginal linkage.
Sorry to bring this one up again but i want to make it handle better on the cheap.
It is my road bike that will do the odd track day.
If it makes any difference i weigh about 15 1/2 stone

not sure on the fitment of the zx shock but im pretty sure if it fits it will be just the shock you need not the linkage etc...why not just go for the gsxr shocks? they fit straight in but you need 2 either cut a bit of the battery box or move the hole tray back about a cm or so.

When considering a replacement shock.
Start with the simple things.
Uncompressed and compressed lengths. ie will it mess the bike geometry. Then spring rates. Will it handle the bikes weight plus the lardy sat on it and compress within the available stroke. And then the complicated stuff which is what makes shocks actually work, the compression and rebound rates. how much damping do you need, how much does the donor shock provide.
So when you are bouncing down the road, your rear end having kicked you off. did you inform your insurance company that you had "uprated" your suspension. If that is the cause of your off they can walk away.
Setting suspension is an art. A black one that you need to sell your soul to do properly. Every track has somebody offering to do it for you. But if they mess up, who is the guinea pig that find out if it is the right setting for you/your bike and that track.
I ain't going to say which shock to fit. Shocks are designed from the off for a bike and then tuned for rider/style. Fitting one designed for another bike is always a compromise. It may be better than OEM. But will never be perfect.

I assume you mean ZX10R - It'll fit, but it'll be WAY too stiff. I have gone up #30 (636 on curvy) and it is notably stiffer ... going up #110 would be obscene

Thanks for the replies,
I'm only trying to make it handle a bit better and have a some sort of adjustment.
I normally do my track days on my other road bike which is a 2001 fireblade.
in comparison the sv feels like riding a pogo stick.
I know i am never going to get it to handle as well as that, but i'm sure a ZX shock will make a big difference

Dude, seriously, looking at the numbers the ZX10 shock will be WAY too stiff for a pointy, looks like you want one of these:-
