View Full Version : Overfilling my mug ...

When making a cup of tea, why do I always ... and I mean ALWAYS ... put so much water in my mug , that by the time I add the milk, I end up with my mug full to the brim?? ... . . . . this obviously consequently means that when I take out the teabag (I know I should remove teabag before milk*, but I am impatient) and/or stir it ... or walk with it, it spills .. . . . ..

Every ruddy time ... every time ...

Is anyone else tea making stupidity impaired!?!?! :D ... or is it just me

Its not quite as daft as it sounds as I normally have black coffee you see ... so I don't need to account for milk ...

*and technically that'd bring the level down a bit too

You forgot to put the space between "hot" & "water" leaving the centre 4 letters as...

Well, the forum thought you were being rude.:p

EDIT & WTF - Hot Water
You forgot the space you t wat ;)
You put the milk in first if you've made a pot of tea.
You need boiling water to brew the tea & milk in the cup to stop the hot tea cracking the china cup :)

Using a tea bag in a mug put the milk in after it has brewed

This actually came from times where the poor didn't have china cups ... they put the milk in so the cup didn't crack, the rich/well to do had china and they didn't need to ... therefore the way you made your tea was deffo a 'class' thing 8)

I'd expect even today all northerners to make tea with the milk in first, not that they can't afford china (or that normal mugs crack), they just have no class!! :D

Gonna go and make another cup of tea now ... what do you reckon the chances of me filling it appropriately are?!!?!? :D

Indeed did a 'fail' - my excuse was that I was distracted!! :D

But this time I tipped the excess down the sink before putting the milk in!!

right story, wrong way round from what i've heard...

seems i heard wrong, wikipedia to the rescue...

as for over-filling it i reckon it's because you're a risk taker, you want to get as much in as possible and often this results in you overfilling. i know because i do the same, and if i were going to get all dr phil about it i'd say i bet you also try to beat the self closing fridge door when you put the milk back in instead of just using your other hand to stop it shutting

am i close?;)

+1 to the over-filling and beating the fridge door. The disappointment when I catch the fridge door when I'm withdrawing my hand from it. :D

according to google's cache of the wiki article on "Tea" it's the way Blue said, however i'd always thought it was the other way as china cups were fragile:confused:

@Seggons - bet you've never split a near full 4 pinter going for a gap in the fridge door that you knew was disappearing too quickly;)

Blue, how the fark do you know about tea and china and milk and class and the such? And why don't you just put less water in the mug?

Blue, a "finishing school" is different to being sat in the detention lounge being convinced that it's worth making it to 16 before you leave.
