Unlucky mate, I have had that before when I first started being a mechanic, watched my mentor weld something, he told me I'd get arc eye but I didnt believe him, woke up that night feeling like my eyes were beign sandblasted, I can't remember how long it lasted but it seemed like hours. Sorry mate!
ArcEye is a nasty nasty thing. Worse if the welding was just out the corner as Im told. i have only had this experience once and as said above you will not do it again after this experience. Mind you I was ok the following day. If not then its hospital dude. A mate of mine had to wear an eye patch for days with his.
Hard lesson learned eh.

AH Wideboy my old friend. If you can still read this, wet tea bags will sooth the pain. Ones that have been used to make tea and left to go cold (hot ones wont help).

Ouch, you poor boy.
If the pain becomes too great, get yourself to the local eye clinic.
Welders mask next time Kiddo...

It doesn't matter....he can't read it now anyway.
ArcEye the most painful thing I have ever had in my life both eyes flash from white wash walls even though I was wearing a mask...
mate if you have got it straight away then it doesnt sound like it's as bad as it could have been but it will last about 12 hours or so and you will know about it for the next day or so.... next time though wear a mask as you can do some serious damage to your sight!

From wiki:
"applying vaporub above the cheekbones causes pain to spike, then fade almost completely in seconds "
Sounds dodgy to me!!

i wasn't looking at the weld it self i was looking away, but some how its still effected me
you only need to get a single flash as it burns the retiner (sp?) in your eye!... hence the need to wear a mask at all times!

restless night followed by dark sunglasses the next day. its not as bad as some flashes, if your ever near anyone alloy welding then leave the continent. the material itself alone intensifies the arc, very, very painful.
a tip for you, if your ever doing more than a little weld apply some sun protective lotion, factor 400. eyes may still hurt but your skin stays on your face. seriously.

Last time I had it, was sat in my room, in dark with lights off, with sunglasses on. Was too painful to light a smoke.
Almost as bad is when blind tacking with MIG and you sunburn your eyelids.

woman !!
welding??
come to my fetish room..
Clear safety spectacles will stop you getting arc-eye, they're about a fiver if you can't get them from work. Half of our night shift welders were off last night with it after the foreman shoved 7 welders next to one another the night before. None of them wore the specs!
i got arch ey once and it lasted about 2 days untill things felt 100% right. but has resulted in me needing stronger glasses not much but enough lol
i will never weld without a mask again in my life.
