Morning all,

If you have read my other posts you will know that i passed my test a few months back and that i picked up a K5 SV650S with 58 miles on the clock, it has now done 1500 and is gonna be going in for its first mot and oil change early next week.

You may also know that i work in IT for Cooper-Avon (yes the people who make them very nice Stom ST and viper sports)

So.... To the point... I was sat at my desk half hour ago when the head test rider phoned me after a bit of work he wanted done. Told him it wouldn't be a problem and would see what i could do.

He then said he was after something else as well, It turns out that there is some testing going on at castle combe in a few week and he needs an sv650 to do the testing on and wants to borrow mine!

Lending him the bike aint a worry, after all he is an ex Canadian Superbike Champion amongst other things, the bike will be fully insured on the company policy and he will of course leave a brand new set of Storms on when he has finished testing! :smt026 i will be going up to watch the test and might even get a quick lap or two in when it has finished.

Only real worry is if he is gonna be raggin the **** out of my bike what should i be thinking of doing? as i said it will have an oil change before the test, is there anything else i should have done? will it need anything done after?

Thanks,

Colin.

That's a shame that you are almost three times over due on the service schedule

Assuming it had the 600 mile service it'll be fine.

If you have any worries I'll lend you mine, I could use a nice set of Avon's on there:p

I take it they are going to remove your existing tyres and fit others. I would ask to keep the olds for "in case of puncture". Maybe that's not a problem for you anyway :)

The OP doesn't say it's not been serviced, it's going in for it's first MOT, being 3 years old and having an oil change at the same time, that's how I read it anyway.

But yeah just to echo the rest, it should be fine, check the company policy to see if it cover engine failures though.

And lucky git.

I'd say oil change. Check coolant.

If it reached 58 miles in it's first ownership, why would the oil be changed . If it had it's oil changed a few months ago when pimp cat bought it, why would it be changed 1,442 miles later

I await to be corrected :)

I am really confused as to the excitement this is raising
Let me see If I get this straight?
Someone else is going to rag your bike not you?
He's not going to drop it so it doesn't matter if it's fully insured because you're not going to have the benefit of new parts replacing any of your slightly damaged ones?
It's costing you a day's holiday.
You'll end up with better quality new tyres* on the bike, but at 1500 miles yours are hardly likely to be worn out.

:smt102

*Or one trackday old new tyres :???:

My thoughts too ...

If they were asking him to go do the test himself, therefore getting a free trackday, the latest tyres, and paying him his normal paid/working day too. Then it is cool ...

Otherwise I'd tell them to poke it or they can hire it for £???

Well, they're hiring it for the cost of the tyres ;) I'd be pretty happy with this as long as the insurance was iron-clad, a trackday won't kill an SV unles it's already dying generally. And it's good to see what your bike can do, confidence is the biggest problem with using a bike well so seeing it thrashed could be good for the soul ;) I'd want the day off work to come and watch mind.

Surely he A: doesn't need new tyres yet and B: can get them at a good price anyway?

I'd feel more obliged/abused than excited ..

It had an oil and coolent change as soon as i brought it as it had been sat about for gettin on 3 years. i know that it was supposed to have another / "propper" one at 600 but the guys who do the test riding and work on the works bikes said do a 1 - 2 thou miles to break it in and then do another one at the end of september when the mot is due.

As for the testing, yeah someone else is gonna be riding my bike, but i'm sure i'll end up gettin a couple of laps, and it might not even be on my bike as there will be the rest of the test bikes there and even if i don't get a go my self i'm sure i'll get a few laps as a pillion.

Yeah the standered tyres that came on the bike 3 years ago have only done 1500 miles but there still 3 years old! yeah tyres last longer then 3 years but the storm st's are gonna be a big improvment! and as there free its effectivly £180 in my pocket so i aint gonna complain! Plus i'm sure it won't be the only set i get off them! :)

As for having the day off to go to the test, it will just go down as an out of office appointment as technicly i will be at an avon test run so its work related.

Make sure you end up with a free full tank of petrol too!

yeah should do, they will be changeing the brakes as well, either before or after the test. i think that they are basicly gonna be doing a service on it before it hits the track and then a quick one after to make sure everythings still ok.

Sounds like a winner to me, must be wearing those nasty Dunlops if it's the original set so it'll be good to get rid of those for a start. Sounds like a good day at work to me.

Go for it Lad . I just had a set of Storm ST`s fitted , they are very good tyres , are they testing a newer version of them ?

Ahem.Do they need any other bikes for tyre testing? My ZX9 needs some tyres, and I can lay my hands on two SVs that would feel the benefits of free Avon Storms?????
I really wouldnt mind a bit if someone scubbed them in for me and serviced the bikes too.

I did this a few years back in conjunction with JHS racing on the then 750, was good fun!

hmmm, the question i'm asking myself is why do they want to test the storms on the sv this far into sales...

i've noticed a lot of people saying that they have no chicken strips but feel as though they are not leaning any more than they used to, which in my thinking, taking a tyre to the edge is peg grinding grounds.

i'm not knocking the storms as i have just got a set for myself. but it still sounds a bit worrying.

Depends. 2 up riding as hard as I'm prepared to 2 up showed storms with very little chicken strip and looking a little chewed. Riding same way on my own leaves a little strip but doesn't look at all "worked". That's scratching pegs very occasionally.

To see how they can be improved....
