Oh aye, I know what you mean, but I haven't yet seen a modern ducati that doesn't look tarty :-P

Then again, my taste goes more towards things sprayed matt black with all money spent on the inside of the engine ;-)

I think I've found the replacement for Bucket.

I like it mostly. There are indeed a few bits I don't like, but I think I could live with them or see if I could modify or replace them.

Overall, I like it. I like it better than the pointy version anyway. Shame they couldn't have found a way to combine the new looks in the old frame.

Gladius is the type of sword the Romans used.

I would need to see it in the metal but not fussed and the colours look very 'stylish' as if aimed for a female audience.

The engine specs sound good so it should offer a bit more go that the average SV650.

What engine specs?

Same as SV, the bike is heavier though.

what the chuffing hell is that.....its bad enough as it is without shoving a chavvy paint job on it, tank protectors with the union flag on is bad enough, but its even more tasteless stroooon across a full tank...bleuuughhh

is it me, or is that a TOP BOX on the back

yes,,,,its the only useful part of the bike;)

two things:

1) an 's' model with a top box?

2) there's a union flag paint job on the tank - whats the crack with the tricolore' ducati's? Something to do with having the italian flag colours on the bike

I'm afraid you're wrong there matey, in the world health organisation dictionary, a 'gladius' is the clinical name given to a depressed haddock, hence the looks of the new suzuki

well actually it is a type of swordfish..... although I think a swordfish is better looking, the bike still looks like an old trout;)

I've just put some new photo's on the main site in Current news. Someone has customised the Glad and there's even a top box.

It's starting to grow on me. 2 things though:

1) the name has to go.

2) if only they could sort out that headlight, the rest of it is fine. Maybe a fuller upper fairing like the former curvy & pointies? With the lower fairing and just that melted headlight, it looks odd.

Thanks for the update :)

The exhaust on the faired version is an improvement but the fairings look cr@p, but at least they cover that radiator.

Hmmm- design is a bit playmobil.

But I like the frame.

Gladius. Daft name for a bike though, if you ask me.

They seem to be going a bit late 90's Honda with the rear end, too. And look at the size of the tail.

And the tiny front fender. Don't Suzuki ever learn?!

A mixed bag- not sure about the whole package. But long live the Suzi V Twin!

Ah, the GLADYS - how far-king CUTE !!!

Suzuki have made a Politically Correct Motorcycle :pukel: which is guaranteed not to offend the general public (only old bikers - bah! humbug!).

Niche Marketing at its worst. Why didnt they paint it pink as well ?

It looks like a female version of the Ducati 696.

Seriously folks, who would want to be seen riding GLADYS in public ?

ps Hopefully the new SV750 (????) will restore our faith in Suzuki ?

I don't think Suzuki will release a new SV. They don't seem very committed to the current version, they can't even be bothered to put any photos in the gallery on the official website. imo it's too niche having a midsize vtwin for them in their line up any more. a good a bike as it is it's days are nearly over. RIP SV :(

From what I've read, the Gladys is the replacement for the naked SV, and the SVS is going to continue next year. Those of you who want a naked pointy better get in quick...

personally i quite like it, although as they don't do one in XL I won't be rushing out to buy it...

that fairing option is hideous. Id sack the stylist.

I cant see how Suzuki can kick the SV as its a great seller. It does need an update though, its getting left behind year on year.

...and the Gladius is it. Why would Suzuki introduce another middleweight v twin with very similar characteristics if not as a direct replacement?

The Gladius, SV650 Sport, and the SV650N will be sold side by side in 2009, the question is will the Gladius replace the entire SV range in 2010?

rob13
08-11-08, 06:04 PM
If it does, expect to see the number of units sold plummet.

Face it boys and girls the SV is dead long live the Gladius. IMO its better looking. If they bring out a half faired version i would expext to see the SV range killed of prety soon after.

Missed all the Gladius threads earlier and as it has been posted on another forum today I had a first look at it. It seems I'm going to be the proud owner of the last made SV650(naked) and it's black. I'm starting to like my little light bike

Apart from the trellis (which I've always liked on the Monster) there isn't anything I like on the Gladius. In fact there are a number of things I find quite ugly such as the exhaust pipes, the clocks and the headlight. If the information that I've seen is right it has the same smaller tank as the Monster, one of the reasons I didn't choose it (14.5 as opposed to 17 on the SV), when I was looking to buy a new bike.

And it's missing a fender extender, so the after-market world is going to do well again, really they come up with a new bike and 'forgetting' to make a front mudguard that is long enough to do what it's supposed to do. I could go off Suzuki.

yorkie_chris

But according to suzuki there's nothing wrong with it.... yeahhhhh.

In this months BIKE ,agazine they say it is deffinately going to be the SV replacement...... I think i'll keep the curvy and just keep buying new engines for it. Number of things i dont like:
1) the name ...... Gladius what the f*ck sounds like a kitchen blender name
2) the headlight..... nothing manly about it
3) the tank...... looks abit plasticcy
4) the seat ..... how would a pillion be comfortble with that lump up its ****??
5) i dont like the rear light either and the mud guard why make an ugly bike even worse?

Number of things but what confirms to me that this is officially a girls bike is the website: http://www.gladiusstyle.com/ and the instrument panel it has a gear indicator and it looks abit dated to me.

All in all its got nothing that is appealing to me!

I will be angry if they do stop making the SV to be replaced by this god, knows what state faired would be if they choose to make one.

Nice going Suzuki..... :@

But the 2009 SV650S is in the dealers now, I think they meant to write it is the replacement for the SV650N. It could be the replacement for the SV650S if they make a half faired version for 2010.

yorkie_chris

If I was in market I'd be buying an SV650S and ripping the plastics off. Yuckyuckyuck.

What a choice, pointy or gladys...

Those of us with taste are fortunate, you can pick up curvys cheap as chips, though I suspect their value will go up in light of gladys..

No, like I say; if I was forced to buy a new one I'd get the SV sport and nakedy-fi it rather than get a gladys.

not too sure about the gladius. dont like the seat, dont like the name and yorkie chris i fear ''gladys'' will become its downfall.
reserve my judgement until i've seen one in the flesh. is there any plans for a semi faired model? if not then i'll not look at all.

Thread from the dead so to speak.

Went and had a look in Suzuki on Saturday just so I could have a look at one of these :)

I actually am rather impressed with it, it is a very nice looking bike. Something that did catch my eye is the fact it is a 120/70 on the front tyre as standard.

Got to admit it looks better in black, dos'nt hide the fact they need a new design team when ive put it alongside a street triple it looks yucky, an plastic side panels on tank what idiot thought of them another three or four ltrs would have been better, they spoilt what could have been a brilliant bike,
