i was thinking the street triple because they are big bike, i cant be arsed with this lurching over tank business now
raptors are nice though
dizzyblonde
30-09-08, 09:00 PM
seeeeeee...you know you want one. TL1000s engine:-)
Plus Raptors are pretty rare so you always have somebody asking what it is and gawping at it. Lissa will back me up, but at the last european vtwin day, there was a world record breaking moment.......there was five stood together at the same time. we've only ever managed two..tehe
what is a raptor.
Are they made by MZ?
Wideboy

what are they like for reliability any problems yet?

If you look hard you may find an 06 Tuono around otherwise a tidy factory early model. 2nd choice would be the Triumph. 3rd choice the KTM Super Duke.

Cagiva, but made by MV Agusta , as they were taken over by them through production

Reliable as any other, after some 8000 miles theres been no issues, apart from the rad went funny but thats as quaint a trait as the curvy clutch cover leak. There is a forum, the Raptor chaptor, which would point you in the right direction, for anything useful
ahhh duno about aprilia they blow up lot dont they, my brothers was for ever breaking down
The V-twin engines are solid and very reliable. The 06 Tuonos have a 4 year warranty so another 2 to go. It's a common perception people have with the brand although easy to see through once you do some looking.
The dealer back-up can be a problem as most no-name sellers know very little about the bike, brand and company - you need to be local to a specialist dealer if you ever consider getting one - or be prepared to travel.

The Cagiva Raptors are good for reliability.

Only the two strokes, the four stroke engines are good. The electrics on the four stokes are a bit iffy, you can have two bikes from the same production line and one will have problems and the other will be fine. This is something Aprilia are working on at the moment, having consistency.

You can't get a TL! (enough said there)
I know you were looking at Tl's so maybe you should look at Firestorms and you'd have a lot of change for something else to accompany it or add to it ;)
Wideboy
01-10-08, 04:08 PM
i still wouldn't mind a TLs, wanted one ever since i bought the curvy, who know anything could happen i could end up going up to a c90;)
i do like the idea of a tuono though

Hornet or Street Triple. You'll get a mint Hornet for 4k. They are hooligan enough.

The raptor uses a TLS engine, but you get working suspension in with the deal.

02-10-08, 05:52 PM
is the motor in the raptor actually branded as suzuki or is it a cagiva carbon copy?
ThEGr33k
02-10-08, 05:54 PM
Its made by Suzuki for Cagiva but has Cagiva on the side not Suzuki. Seem like nice bikes but if you think Aprilia parts are hard to find you will think Cagiva are impossible :(
yorkie_chris
02-10-08, 05:54 PM
It's a TLS engine. AFAIK suzuki sold them whole motor and management package.

Its made by MV using the cagiva brand name with left over motors bought from Suzuki.

that is my big issue is getting spares. i had a import a few years back and it was impossible to get spares for, i don't want to go back to that
if the spares arnt a issue then the raptor is a viable choice, they seem to be dirt cheep

Cagiva ordered the Tl engine from suzuki, not a handme down thing. The only thing that Cagiva changed was the ECU. The engine was unchanged from TL 's' spec. I know cause Im Indoors owns one, and he has two manuals - TL and raptor- engine Identical.
Any question Wideboy, send me a PM and I'll get Im Indoors to give you the answers you want. We own one, Matts very much an expert on them
Spares can be an issue. Just if you buy a VRaptor...do not crash it ...the horns alone OEM are £360 .... ouch

OUCH! Jeez. That sucks. :(
I do wonder why no one starts a company to jsut make parts in the UK to support Italian bikes. If they could do fairing never mind anything else they would get a LOT of business.
For example I been and talked to a plane making company and they can make carbon fibre side panels for mine at a 3rd of the cost (£120) of a propper side pannel!!!!! For a high quality (plane standard materials) glass fibre side pannel they recon it could be done for £60, aprilia one is £300!!!
Bah, maybe I will have to do it?
