View Full Version : how long does a res of scottoil last
roughly in miles? (i know it depends on what setting you have it on)
just fitted mine, and i have to take my seat off to fill it (2 bolts) but then i found a betterer place, but had already cut the pipe.

The Vacuum feed from the engine means that the reservoir will not drip if you disconnect it - the pipe might tho.
I had to do a re-location job on mine - with the pipe cut too short (but still had the off-cut)
I used some of the think black tubing to join 2 pieces of the clear plastic tube - no problems in about 5000 miles. (and one re-fill)

Daily use, minimal setting once a week/1000 ,is is about the norm.
Cheers Mark.

If it is in a hard to access place try adding some tube to the fill up point and zip-tie the tube end somewhere more accessible.

On the Curvy, if you remove the nearside (chain-side) seat infill triangle, you will notice 2 small 6mm tapped holes in the frame, I made a small "L" shaped bracket, and mounted mine there, the advantages are you only have to remove the small panel to check & adjust the oiller & it mounts upright !! ;)

If you contact Scottoiler I think they'll send you any spares i.e. additional tubing for free.
I fill mine about once every 2-3 weeks and do around 400 miles per week. Again, like posted above, the dial got knocked once up to maximum and I emptied the full lot in 2 days.

I have the HCR and haven`t topped it up in 6 months , getting a bit low now :p
Mine manages about 800 - 1000 miles, depending on weather. When it rains I up the output another 1 on the dial.

I Originally fitted mine there, but the heat from the exhaust thins the oil and it runs out even quicker.
Moved it to here in the end. I could fill it up by removing the rear seat

Red Scottoil ? enlighten me :D
Red is for use in ambient temperatures above 20C, blue is for below 20C. We took Red with us on our European trip over the summer. Above 20C the blue oil is really thin and pours out of the oiler at an alarming rate, plus does not do a lot on the chain!
Some poor chap in HG was about to leave on a euro tour when it was pointed out his HRC was full of blue oil, not suitable for the heat of southern europe. Oh how he swore..... We just filled with blue in the UK and topped up with red as we went along. My lube tube needed filling once, Claire's standard RMV was filled up 3 times.
Well then you should know how often to fill it??!!!
twas a long time ago........ and i cant remember,

Cheers Fortunate Knickers , may as well stick to Blue for time being then :D
Red Scottoil ? enlighten me :D
As already mentioned in this thread. It's what mine came with
how long does a res of scottoil last
Till you next fill it up...
;-)
It also depends on the temp... the cold it gets the slow it comes out, so on a hot week it you don't touch the settings you might find its gone alot quicker.
Red Scottoil ? enlighten me :D
I use Dextron III ATF, it's red in color, very high in detergents, does an excellent job, I figure I can get 5000-6000 miles from my Touring kit, but at routine sercice every 3500-4000 miles, I top it off. I have drip rate set at 1 per 55 seconds

I set the drip rate in a very scientific way known as "whatever gets the chain wet and not the tyre"
Mine is set to one drip every 40 - 45 seconds. Any more than that and it streaks on the tyre
