Hi Just passed my test 2 weeks ago,I Bought a 02 sv650s and I was looking for a restrictor,I just joined this site this evening and Im a bit of a biker virgin or (newbie)
all this curvy/pointy talk is confusing I gather its something to do with the style of the bike, the yellow one in your pic looks like mine so I think your restrictor would suit my sv,
Can you get fitting instructions and would I need a certificate for the insurance company,if so where would I get it from.
Cheers Mark

ok the yellow bike in the pick is a curvy, so the kit should fit your bike, some insurance companys may want a certificate though i used direct choice and they did'nt request one.
fitting is reasonably easy, basically you have to lift the carbs just enough to drop the washers in underneath them (between the carbs and the engine) you do this by
1. removing the front seat, unscrewing the alan bolts at the front of the tank and lifting the tank up (from the front, it can be held up useing a tool that is stored under your rear seat) it should resemble an open car bonnet once up.
2. remove the airbox (big black plasic box under fuel tank) to do this you need to use needle noses plyers to unclip the breather pipes then it will lift free with a little force.
3. the carbs are now exposed, before you can lift them off the cylinders you need do undo two screws which are located on clips at the bottom of each carb, the clip on the rear carb is easily accessable but the clip on the front carb is more difficult you need to poke a screw driver throgh the hole in the righthand fairing to get at it, its very tricky but it works in the end.
4. after this you simple lift the carbs and place the washers between the engine and the carbs.
then simply put everything back in its place, when putting the airbox back on it is worth undoing the for screws so you can see inside it (there are rubber seals on each of the carbs that the air box pushes onto) You need to make sure that these seals are neatly inside the airbox, so as they are airtight.
other than that just make sure you reattach all the breather pipes.
this guide may help: http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=62081
it is for removeing a diffrent kind of restrictor kit but some of it is relevant
plus it has lots of nice picture that should help.

Bit pricey isn't it?
You can have any old washers machined for less than that. How much do they cost new? :-?

150 quid lol
Never!
Jesus. I intend to give mine away to a fellow orger if I survive the next two years as melody kindly donated hers to me. As they are just a set of washers and a certificate I take it most of that extortionate price is in the certificate.
As you were lads lol

I was told that when your bike is restricted you get a sticker for the frame of the bike stating its restricted,is there any truth in this?
I got my bike insured no problem and I wasnt asked for a certificate,
Reason for this question,
Can the Police tell just by looking at a bike if it has been restricted?

No they can't. And I doubt that's true - if it is there's no legal obligation to display it.

Either get 'em second hand or get some machined.
Not forgetting when you buy 'em second hand you don't get the certificate so it is just a pair of washers....

More utter bull$hit from FI international. Their literature basically states you "vill be shot" if you don't give them all your money.
The kits aren't even any good FFS... for an injected bike they'll make it run sloppy rich! And they generally don't get near 33bhp so you're getting f###ed over 3 times at once!

Bit of a stab in the dark, but has anyone got restrictor washers (or the facilities to machine them) for a curvy? its a 2000 model. hoping to get my bike in a few days, but i can already see myself staring longingly at it on my drive until I can get it restricted :-(
Cheers guys, either p/m me or e-mail me-- capoatthe5th@hotmail.com
