There is a guy here in Australia on a local forum who makes a patented bike stand/hoist. I think this looks amazing and a very clever design. Enables the use of the tyre warmers too as well as being able to work on the bike - shock removal etc. It also folds up to a size that is compact enough to take in a rucksack with tyre warmers to the track, which is something I really would like to do. Anyway, just wondered what people's thoughts are:

price is $450 AUS which is around 200 pounds

What do you guys think??

That is just so cool I had to play the video 3 times.

that must be the easiest to use bike stand EVER!

What about if you don't have rearsets?

How does that allow you to get to the front wheel (for a tyre warmer)? It looks like the front wheel is sitting on that stand - or is it like a centre stand, you can put weight on the back and it'll just sit on it's rear and balance on the peg-stand-thing?

It has arms that swing upwards under the fork bottoms giving clearance for tyre warmers

The one in the pictures looks different to the one in the video. It seems that the bike in the video has bobbins on the forks, and is also lifted by the rear-sets - I bet that takes a bit of adjustment to set that up.

To be honest, it'll be one of those "essential" bits of kit that every track-day-tart needs for their R1... the rest of the world will be happy with a classic pair of paddock stands.

It has a flaw - once set up for the bike you are using, it won't fit others without needing new arms to locate with. If it had adjustable and lockable arms I'd be interested. Also, 15mm of lift isn't enough to get a front wheel out on most modern bikes, and the rear would be tight too.

Back to the drawing board Mr Ripperton, or I may just modify your design myself and patent it

So basically it's AU$400 worth of useless scrap metal...

Not entirely, but it is limited in its appeal because of its flaws. There's a market for stands like this in race and trackday paddocks, so with a bit of work it could be viable.

Oh yes, I missed that part in the video - thought it was just the rear. Looks like it would be good if it had a TON of adjustability - making the "legs" longer and shorter, adjusting them in/out (i.e. towards and away from the bike, sideways), and adjusting the angle so you can make them "meet" the forks/pegs at the correct time.

It is a clever idea.

I've PM'd the guy about removing the wheels - See what he says!

Bear in mind this was designed for the track/ club racing - hence why he isn't concerned about it working with OE folding footpegs.

The design pictured is a newer version than the one in the video hence the difference. It has been further refined to have fewer cables and a few other mods.

TBH I'd find this a very useful stand and am seriously considering one. One of the things that I would really love at a trackday is tyre warmers. The downside is I have to ride to trackdays and can't carry paddock stands.

EDIT: He just got back to me re: removing the wheels - He said the rear is easy and the front you have to remove the mudguard to change the front. I know this isn't the most ideal but no big deal really.

Very clever! I can't believe it fits into a rucksak though.

A large one ;) Point being that paddock stands don't and are near impossible to carry on a bike (cue a pic from Rictus of paddock stands successfully strapped to a bike! ;))

Or jester with the abba stand and 3 tonnes of other crap on there!
