lol @ Badger.......
don`t mind cute little hamsters but please no pics of rats, i have a phobia AAAARRRRGGGGGHH.. it`s the long tails, am shuddering at the thought :(
Me and my younger 3 kids used to keep guinea pigs, which aren't technically rodents. At one point we had 34 of the little buggers, they just kept appearing overnight. My kids had a hell of a job offloading them onto other kids at school, until I had the great idea of the kids having a summer party with friends over, and then every little girl they knew just had to have one once they'd sat in the run playing with them. But, as I explained, they are social animals and need company, so you'd better take two.

LMAO @ Take Two
I used to have an albino rat with red eyes I called Rambo. He used to go out to town with me, sitting quite happily on my shoulder. Rats make great pets. They are intelligent, clean, and far less likely to bite than mice, hamsters or gerbils. Rambo never bit anyone. He lived for nearly 5 years, which is a long time for a rodent.
I cried buckets when he died:(

I have two pet rats a brown ish coloured one called Florence and a white one with pink eyes called Ruby, rats are the best rodent pets to have, cos they dont bite like hamsters do.

Sad day.

they do look very similar they're brothers. But not identical though. Ones a little darker than the other one.

We breed mice for Royal Python... much cheaper than buying it in. It does take more effort (cleaning mice cages etc), but worth it to get a better quality of food compared to the blast-frozen variety.
Am I allowed to post a pic of the mice, and claim they're rats? :D

Ooooh, nice Royal - mine died just over a year ago :( at 14 years old. He was great and used to love curling up round your arm and a mug of tea so you couldn't actually put it down. Also had quite an amorous affair with our hoover once.
I did the round of gerbils, dwarf hamsters and mice as a kid, but mum would never let me have a rat, and to be honest I never really had the desire for one as a pet - though they are, as pointed out, very clean and intelligent for a rodent.
I have mice in my garage - does that count? ;)

AAAAARRRRRGGHHH!
Rabbits are rodents....
Umm...no they aren't, they are lagomorphs.
From Wikipedia:
Lagomorphs differ from rodents in that
they have four incisors in the upper jaw (not two, as in the Rodentia);
they are almost wholly herbivorous (unlike rodents, many of which will eat both meat and vegetation; the few recorded exceptions within the Lagomorpha occur among members of both Lepus and Ochotona, and involve the occasional foraging for carrion as a supplementary winter food source);
the male's scrotum is in front of the penis (unlike rodents, which is behind); and
the penis contains no bone (Baculum), unlike in rodents.

Our Bunny clearly doesnt get this as TBH there isnt a lot he wont eat. To date this includes
2 x sets of surround sound speaker cables
1 x ADSL Wireless route cable
1 x telephone extension cable
5 x sets of ipod headphones
2 x Laptop power supplies ( 1 of which gave him a mild shock and he's lost his ponchant for these now )
1 x 4 gang mains adaptor stripped of its insulation
He's quite partial to the stair carpet and the laundry basket as well.

I think it`s something to do with constantly growing teeth so they need to nibble a lot to wear them down . My Dog only ever chewed one cable once , there was a pop and a flash and a Four legged streak pelting it`s way out of the living room going "URF URF URF"

yeah, our rabbit is mostly well behaved.... until your not looking, then he kinda turns into pac-man.
I've just found me dyson flex down to copper wire, also is very partial to my t-shirts especially new ones and of course, the laptop charger.
As for not being rodents... you learn something everyday!

Rats are great pets- I'm always trying to persuade people to get them instead of hamsters.
totally agree with you. Most people who come round ours are warned that they may see one pop out from under the chair. They still go errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh, horrid.
When they leave they usually change their mind.White EEEK used to love lager as we found out from the previous pic.She would sit net to anyone that had a can

It's crazy, rats do so much more than hamsters. I work in a vets and the amount of people who don't like hamsters is incredible-they don't handle them enough then they bite. Rats are a lot more fun and clever too - a client of ours has one that will do tricks.

Yep, we had a vet have to go to A&E cos a hamster bit her finger down to the bone. She said the worst bit was the urge to batter it off the edge of the table but of course she couldn't - and the owner wasn't sympathetic.:-D

Lol yeh i was tempted to do that, worked in a petshop then and was supposed to be catching it for the owner to be, ended up dripping blood all over the shop floor. Don't think they bought it after that
