Doing this on sat 8) http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=119081

I am all excited as I have never done that track* before!! 8)

Lets hope the weather stays OK

I know not everyone looks in the TD section, so perhaps seeing this might inspire others to sign up?!!? :)

Paws doesn't live too far from The Rock, she said for every member that says they'll go she will get her baps out :D

Don't be, the National is better, imo

When you've seen one pair, you've seen them both...as my ex-father-in-law used to say.

Actually, I hope she does get her baps out, I'm rather partial to a soft floury bread roll.

Looking forward to the vid of battered old curvy thrashing state of the art superbikes round the rock then.

Yeah, I'll get some footage ... as long as I haven't stacked the R6/myself before I have a go on the SV!! :D

As I said I am particularly excited as Paws is gonna get her baps out ... I mean coz I have never ridden the track before, so it is an all new experience for me!! 8)

yes you should feel excited :-)

Quite a few people told me the Int'l circuit wasn't as good as the National as you miss out all the back straight. First session I thought it was a bit mickey mouse but I started preferring it until I highsided coming off the second part of the oval round the 180 - it's very bumpy. I still think it's a great track.

I didnt notice many bikes coming past you on the brakes;)
Who said SV brakes dont work?

And how does the int compare with the nat at the rock?
I know half of it is the same, but what do you think of the outer bit?

Which group is that?

I know you're quick, but that isn't something you could say about any of the ones you're passing :)

I am glad I have done the International so I can say I have done it, but I wouldn't do it again over doing the National. The national is more fun :) ... and less potentially dangerous!!

...

Why do people always ask that!!?!?!!? :D

I think you know the answer! :smt047

I think I do too, it seems I just greatly overestimate the average standard of riders in the "fast" group. Was anyone there lapping as quickly, or more quickly, than you?

Have you ever tried the/a fast group yourself? Its the only way to get perspective to be honest. :riding:

As for the pace, it's all relative ... everyone out there thinks they are going pretty quick/fully on it (else they would go faster wouldn't they ;)) ... you only need a faster guy to prove you are not as on it as you thought ... I feel I can turn a fair lap, but Mr Rossi (or insert the name of any Pro racer) for example would just make me look plain silly!! ;)

Oh and no, I don't tend to get overtaken* and that is the way I like it  ....

(*if you exclude the brief passes by people on the power obviously

Blue can make pretty much anyone look slow. I guess unless your on there its hard to comprehend.

You're (both) obviously right, it's all relative.

Fast group, at least on that day, wasn't very fast though was it? Blue may be quick, but he's not superhuman. A racer of Mr. Blue's standard or better (Blue2 perhaps), on a sportsbike like most of those others are, would be much faster than Blue on his SV. That's the limit, those riders are (as I'm sure Blue would confirm, and perhaps the riders themselves would admit) not anywhere near it.

I don't want to derail this thread further anyway, and it's not about my ability or experience, that's irrelevant, I'm just surprised.

As a reference point, if you look through my other vids (pretty much all are Fast group) you will see that there was nothing unusually slow about that particular Fast group (been in much slower fast groups).

Its easy to get a god complex :notworthy: when I find eating people like that so easy, but when put in the 'total perspective vortex', I know where I am ...

I am not disillusioned enough to think that if you threw me in with the big boys I would get anything other than humiliated!!! :smt090

But it just shows the void between your average trackday bods and even moderate (x-)racers like me ... it also shows that you have to be kicking serious butt in the fast group at trackdays before it is even worth considering racing (if you want to be in any way competative - and there are going to people like me and faster out there! ;)).

Its humbling to think/know there is a void just as big as you see there between me and the likes of the pro racers - it gives me so much appreciation for what I see when I see it on telly!!!! :smt038

That's overly modest. You'd be much closer to Rossi on another SV650s than those riders are to you on your SV650s, despite their more capable machinery. You know where the limit of grip is and obviously ride to it. That doesn't mean noone could go faster, of course, but the difference would be much smaller.

I suppose you are right ... reducing laptimes is diminishing returns ...

Bearing in mind the magnitude Rossi is better than me, it's be cool to get Rossi on an SV and find out how that translates in actual lap times wouldn't it!! ... I hope it is <60s/lap!! :D

It's one of the things that I find slightly dissatisfying about watching racing on TV. Sure it's nice to see Rossi lapping ultra fast on a GP bike, but it would be nice to see what the very best could do on stock machines.

It’s the only way to get any tangable idea of how much ‘better’ he is … he will undoubtedly be quicker … but on the same bike (SV) with me doing 60s laptimes, is he lapping 57s or 30s??!?!? I suspect on a 60s lap -10s is what I think is likely i.e. he will be doing 50s laps if I can do 60s laps … but who knows ...

do it.

Down boyz ... ... this is the first year I have let it expire/not renewed it ... so I can't be tempted ... :p

That said one of the trackday companies are doing endurance race days (you need a licence) … that might be interesting

No chance, do you really imagine that you could be so far from the limits of the motorcycle?

You're (from what I've gathered on the forum over the last few years) obviously a decent club racer. "The limit" is what Rossi and co. ride to, every corner, every lap. If you were 10 seconds slower over a 50 second lap of a typical circuit (not many corners), you are nowhere near the limit, and it's obvious that you're at least close to it, or else you wouldn't be even a half decent club racer. On an SV650s, I reckon no more than 2 or 3 seconds per 60 second lap at the very most (still a relative lifetime as you'll know), and that's less if you're better than I give you credit for.

Still it would be great to see.
Maybe TopBike will be launched by the BBC soon, and Rossi could be a "Celebrity, on a Suzuki SV"?

You could be MotoStig. :)

You are as good a guy as any to ask this then: What the hell is the back wheel doing when you are "backing it in"? Is it just a rear wheel slide on rear brake, or are you spinning up the rear wheel faster than the front?? Or the two wheels just going different speeds? I can never tell...

The rear is still spinning, just at less than road speed ...

Its initiated by the back end going light, using the rear brake, going down too many gears compared to what you would do if you wee trying to keep it in line, slipping the clutch such that the engine doesn't over rev ... then you just lean!! 8)

Summin like that anyway ... I kinda just do it!! :D

That just made it 1000% more complicated haha. No seriously, now I know! I'll try it on the next road haha

You obviously need to load the front to get the rear light ... i.e. heavy on the front brake ...

if you are doing it purely for effect, then move towards the tank ... the more you move your weight forward, the easier the rear will step out 8)

p.s. if you try it and fall off ... then .....

Post pics!! :D

I was practising it on the road for a week or so... it's 'kin scary at first but does get easier. I am still afraid it's all going to go pear shaped at any moment, so not doing it any more until I get out on track again. I was simply using the rear brake to get the rear to move sideways, and then easing off the brake as I turned in.
